Job Description:
The Director is responsible for providing leadership for all_noemailponents of the music ministries at Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church. The ministries includes leading the Sanctuary Choir ("Traditional" Worship Service), the Summit Band ("Contemporary" Worship Service), as well as nurturing the musical gifts of church school children, youth and others. The Director will demonstrate a strong_noemailmitment to Jesus Christ, with a heart to lead others into a purposeful sense of worship which will enhance our church's mission "to help people b_noemaile fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ."
The Director of Music reports to the Senior Pastor as a member of the worship ministry team.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Technical Competencies
Knowledge of a variety of church music genres, liturgical practice (prefer experience/understanding of United Methodist Church practices) , and the use of music in worship.
Ability to lead congregation in worship vocally and instrumentally. Proficiency on other instruments desired but not mandatory.
Gift of leadership to lead the worship team and to raise up vocal teams and instrumentalists
Keeps oneself up-to-date as to the latest contemporary worship music as played on Christian radio (i.e. Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, Third Day)
Understanding and_noemailpetence in audiovisual technology, and provide leadership, direction and training to AV/Tech ministry members.
Experience and Training
High musical_noemailpetency preferably with a degree in music, music education, music ministry, choral conducting, or a related field.
Excellent_noemailmunication skills with congregational staff, volunteers and member of congregation.
Effective as a team player and ability to relate to others with good interpersonal skills.
Experience in leading and/or serving on a worship team at a local church, campus ministry and/or Para church_noemailanization
This job description and hours may be divided into areas of responsibility and part time hours, given the training, expertise, experience and desire of the candidate.
