Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church is a spirit-filled, warm, inviting congregation in Ridgefield, CT. We are seeking a part-time addition to staff (on average 20 hrs/wk) to provide leadership and enhance programming for our growing,_noemailmunity-focused middle school ministry—6th through 8th grade.
The role requires an outgoing, energetic, flexible team player with a deep personal faith in Christ and a passion for working with youth. He/she will minister to/with youth via engaging, creative, and faithful programs which facilitate spiritual, social, and personal growth.
This is currently structured as a temp-to-perm position focused on augmenting our existing middle school ministry with plans for it to b_noemaile a permanent part-time role in 2012.
Primary Responsibilities:
Plan, promote, and lead regularly scheduled Middle School Youth Group (SPARK) meetings held on Sundays late afternoon/early evening
Plan, promote, and lead special activities and outings held occasionally—e.g., Friday evening movie night; Saturday day trips/events
Recruit and support volunteers to facilitate small group discussions during SPARK and to assist with other activities/events—ensuring_noemailpliance with safe sanctuary guidelines
Provide spiritual guidance and counseling to youth on an individual/as needed basis
Meet regularly with Director of Youth Ministry to share ideas and stay up-to-date on other church ministries—e.g., high school ministry; music ministry)
Partner with Director of Children's Ministry to develop and help implement activities which will help build a bridge between our 4th and 5th grade program and middle school
Follow up/maintain contact with youth and parents while keeping them informed of ongoing activities
Communicate and promote youth events—e.g., email,_noemailmunity advertisements, Facebook, church newsletter, bulletin, and website
Participate in monthly meetings with senior pastor, associate pastors, and staff
Qualifications:
Active and growing faith in Jesus Christ; models his/her faith in daily living
Strong desire to help middle school students grow deeper in their relationship with Christ and with each other
Strong oral and written_noemailmunication skills
Excellent relational skills with youth, parents, church, and_noemailmunity
Enthusiasm for sharing God's Word/scriptural truth
Well_noemailanized with an ability to multi-task
B.A. degree in a related field and biblical coursework is a plus
2+ years experience in a relational leadership position working with youth—e.g., ministry; teaching; youth recreation
Good understanding of adolescent development and youth culture trends
Proactive; generates and shares ideas
Exhibits patience, good listening skills, and a sense of humor in interacting with youth
Ability to use up-to-date technology and multi-media as a_noemailmunication tool is a plus
Reporting Relationship: T
