JOB DESCRIPTION FOR
DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRIES
FIRST REFORMED CHURCH
PORTAGE, MICHIGANPURPOSE OF YOUTH MINISTRIES:
To nurture our youth through fellowship and personal ministries. To enable each young person to have a personal knowledge of and commitment to Jesus Christ, acquire a working knowledge of the Bible, realize his or her spiritual gifts, and to be equipped to reach out to others in service, friendship and witness.
GOALS OF YOUTH MINISTRIES:
To promote the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, bring greater mental and spiritual insight to our youth, and to lead and encourage the uncommitted to accept and confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of their lives. To encourage and teach the youth of the church to reach out in whatever manner possible with a view to winning people for Jesus Christ.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have appropriate preparation for this position by way of formal academic training.
• Work experience with youth is desirable.
• Youth crisis intervention training preferred or applicant willing to receive training.
• Ability to plan, organize, and effectively present ideas and concepts. Able to assimilate information from a variety of sources and recommend plan of action to be taken.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with volunteers, staff and members of First Reformed Church of Portage.
SPIRITUAL QUALITIES:
• To be able to testify to a vital personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and to a claim of Him as Lord of Life.
• To be able to demonstrate having a working knowledge of the Bible, and of accepting it as the inspired and infallible Word of God.
• To be able to express agreement with the Reformed interpretation of the Bible and the Doctrinal Standards of the Reformed Church.
• Must possess a servant’s heart for youth ministry. This should be demonstrated in carrying out personal ministry as well as encouraging others in their ministries.
• By example, lead in prayer, devotions, quiet time and witness.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To direct and coordinate programs and activities with the Middle, Senior & Post High Youth Ministries and to ensure that the youth ministry goals and objectives are in accord with the church’s overall vision and direction.
• To work in collaboration with the Senior Pastor and in cooperation with the Education Team in order to help oversee the education programs/activities of the church.
• To be under the authority of the Consistory, and accountable to the Executive Committee of the Consistory.
• To provide ministry updates to the Consistory relating to the progress and status of the youth ministry activities, as requested by the consistory.
• To be supportive of First Reformed Church of Portage by regular attendance and participation at scheduled services and other programs, such as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
