Position Information: Raleigh Court United Methodist Church is a vibrant neighborhood church within a historical district of Roanoke, Virginia. The congregation has 700 members. We are seeking an accomplished organist who wants to work with children and families to enhance and nurture the musical talents represented in the congregation. The Organist/Director of Music Ministry will organize and accompany the Children, Youth, and Adult Choirs as well as the Handbell Choir and an emerging “Praise Band.”
The person hired in this position will be expected to work with the Pastor, Staff and Worship Committee in the planning and execution of dynamic and exciting worship experiences for two worship services each Sunday morning as well as for other ministry events such as Vacation Bible School, Youth events, Holy Week, Easter and Christmas musical presentations. The church desires broad music expressions from Classical Organ Repertoire to Instrumental Ensembles to UM Hymnody from the UM Hymnal and Supplement to Contemporary Praise.

Number of weekly services: 2 Sunday Mornings (8:30am and 11:00am)
Number of weekly rehearsals: 6 (children’s choirs, youth/praise choir, adult choir,
handbell choir)
Ensembles: Children’s graded choirs, Youth Praise Choir & band, Adult choir,
Handbell choirs for youth and adults
Instruments: The organ is a 1965 Mohler that has been “re-leathered,” but will go through an extensive reconstruction with a new console and new digital stops. We intend that the new Organist/Director of Music Ministry will be heavily involved in this organ re-build. We have a Kawai baby grand piano in the sanctuary and three-octave Malmark handbells.
Number of Hours per week: Approximately 30 – 40 hours
Annual Salary: Closely in line with AGO standards.
