Job Description:
University Presbyterian Church (www.upc.org) is a dynamic and growing evangelical PC(USA) church in the heart of Seattle and on the doorstep of the University of Washington. We belong to Jesus Christ, to each other and to this great city to which Jesus has commissioned us. On average 3,100 people gather from a wide geographical area each Sunday and 700 college students each Tuesday for enthusiastic worship and are sent forth with influence across Seattle and around the world. We currently hold five worship services each Sunday as well as a variety of other youth, college and young-adult, mid-week services.
Goals for this position 1) Develop planning, broad-based leadership, and support for a new contemporary Sunday evening service aimed intentionally at 18-32 year-olds and intended to launch on September 13, 2009. 2) Maintain stylistic continuity in the 5pm Sunday service, which is piano-led, incorporates a variety of instruments (i.e. drums, guitar, base, keyboard, violin, cello, harp), is played by volunteers, and is attended by a multi-generational congregation. 3) Improve the production values of all services (sound, lighting, video, set design, creative arts, drama, etc). 4) Maintain a sense of authenticity in all services.
Qualifications/skills and knowledge requirements: A strong, growing relationship with Jesus Christ Personal integrity and moral purity Noteworthy musical education and performance skill with the ability to seamlessly lead multi-generational, piano-led services and guitar-led young-adult services A minimum of five years of worship leading experience Ongoing fluency in contemporary music and young adult culture Composition and orchestration skill Administrative gifting and organizational skill Diligence and creativity, with a true sense of vision Warm, enthusiastic, and relational personality, with the capacity to work well with teams Highly effective interpersonal skills Pastoral concern and an ability to mentor and nurture Christian discipleship Familiarity and comfort with basic Reformed theology
