DIRECTOR OF WORSHIP MINISTRIES
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Worship Ministries has the responsibility of working closely with the Senior Pastor to lead the people of West Shore in public worship that glorifies God and mediates life changing encounters with Him. The mission of our church is ‘to become like Jesus' and worship is the fire that fuels our pursuit of that purpose. It is also, as the shorter catechism so deftly proclaims, ‘the chief end of man'. We are looking for just the right person to lead us into the future, ministering to our current congregation while effectively reaching and incorporating the emerging generation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Mature love for God and a contagious heart for worship; spiritual maturity.
2. Well developed understanding of worship and the Word of God.
3. Demonstrated gifts for leading a congregation in public worship that is scripturally saturated, musically rich, spiritually sensitive and personally engaging.
4. Passion and vision for ministry to emerging generations and a heart for the traditions and people in the existing evangelical church.
5. Ability to collaboratively lead a ministry that includes a broad range of musical forms and liturgical elements, e.g., bands, choir, vocal ensembles, Scripture readings, communion, Lenten celebrations, etc.
6. Ability to envision, organize and administer a complex ministry in a large, multiple-service church: ability to recruit effectively and connect people into ministry where they fit well.
7. A gifted musician.
8. Sufficient technological expertise to pursue an expanding and creative use of multimedia in worship.
9. Ability to work closely with the Senior Pastor to create services of word and worship which are woven into a seamless garment to the glory of God.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. In partnership with the Senior Pastor, cast vision and set direction for worship in the church.
2. Create and lead weekly services of worship (two at present), and other services as appropriate, e.g., Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Ash Wednesday, etc.
3. Oversee the worship and technical services staff (paid and volunteer), recruiting, training and supporting them as needed.
4. Work with the Director of Prayer Ministries to integrate prayer and worship in the life of the church.
5. Influence and support the ministries of worship among children and youth.
6. Develop and oversee a ministry of creative arts, expanding the role of visual and other forms of art in the life of the church.
7. Explore and pursue the use of music and art as a means of service and mission beyond the walls of the church.
8. Pastor the community of people involved in leading worship ministry.
9. Serve as an active, contributing member of the ministerial staff team, influencing and participating in the ministry of the whole church.
