Union Church of San Juan, an English-speaking church, is searching for an ordained minister of a mainline Christian denomination. We are a well-established, independent, interdenominational, Christian church serving from 60 to 100 worshippers a week. Our formal Sunday worship service has been historically traditional and liturgical, and held in a relaxed and relational atmosphere. At least five years' experience as a pastor, outstanding academic background, excellent preaching, and strong pastoral abilities are required. Proficiency in Spanish is an advantage. The Union Church of San Juan is actively seeking a Pastor, who must be an experienced, Ordained Minister of a Mainline Protestant denomination.

Church Profile:

The Union Church is a 98-year-old independent, self-supporting, interdenominational, congregational church. We are noted on the island as a bastion of classic ecclesiastical choral and instrumental music. The manse is a condominium apartment adjacent to the church, one block away from the beach with a view of the ocean.

The church's mission statement reads:

"The mission of the Union Church of San Juan is to unite all those who, believing in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, wish to witness to what He is doing in and for the world and to serve Him in ministry to the spiritual, intellectual, and social needs of the_noemailmunity and island, with worship services in English: to be an agent of reconciliation where differences in language, culture, and custom might otherwise divide, to be a force for good in the larger world_noemailmunity, joining with and supporting the efforts of sister churches in Puerto Rico and abroad."

The church was originally founded by Presbyterians and Methodists, and we embrace all those of Christian faith and those seeking Christ as their Savior. Our congregation is_noemailposed of worshipers from all walks of life and diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Worship services and meetings are conducted in English.

Our formal Sunday worship service has been historically traditional and liturgical, and held in a relaxed and relational atmosphere. The understood function of this service is to raise the consciousness of the worshipper from the mundane world to_noemailmunion with the Divine.

Average attendance at our Sunday morning worship service is from 60 to 100 people on regular Sundays, and more on the first Sunday of the month when_noemailmunion is celebrated. We are a stable and we_noemailing church_noemailmunity with many outreach ministries and are always seeking more. Our Christian Education programs include Children's Church, Youth Group, and adult Bible studies.

The Union Church Council is the policy making body of the Church and leads the church, with the elected officers forming the executive_noemailmittee and elected chairpersons of the_noemailmittees that carry out the work of the church forming the remaining members. The Pastor is an ex-oficio member of the council and Spiritual Leader of the Church. The Church employs an administrative assistant and a music director_noemailanist.

Pastor Profile:

The qualities we are looking for in our New Pastor include the following:
Traditional Biblical knowledge and the ability to_noemailmunicate how our Christian faith, through the lessons taught in the Bible, can help us today to understand and deal with the daily problems which we encounter and witness in Puerto Rico and the world
Mainstream Protestant beliefs and a mature faith
At least five years' experience as a pastor
Experience in uniting people with a wide range of theological understanding, education, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds
Strong pastoral counseling skills
Experience in developing children's, youth, and adult Christian Education programs.
Interest and knowledge in music a plus
Proficiency in Spanish is an advantage
