Job Description:
Director of Serve Ministries- Floris UMC in Herndon, Virginia currently has a full-time position open for a Director of Serve Ministries. This person shall be responsible for leading the church in servant ministry and will be responsible for executing Floris' strategic vision for transformation through service both within the church and through outreach in the community. This position shall be filled by a person with strong leadership skills, in addition to the appropriate programmatic experience necessary to manage a large and complex volunteer-based social services program.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide spiritual leadership and subject matter expertise to staff members and lay volunteers in the understanding and continued development of a ministry devoted to transformation through service;
Evaluate Floris Serve Ministries and lead in the development and implementation of the serve strategy in the church;
Develop short-range and long-range goals for Serve Ministries and oversee the execution of those goals;
Raise the value of service and encourage new ideas and ministries that will stimulate the desire to serve within the congregation and community;
Coordinate and integrate service education throughout all church ministries, with a focus on integration with Worship and Grow Ministries;
Recruit, train and mobilize lay leaders for involvement in Serve Ministries;
Remove the Senior Pastor and Executive Director from the administrative burdens of Serve Ministries;
Network with the community and local churches to develop partnerships and funding opportunities and to define the role of Floris in the community with respect to community service.
Qualifications-
BA or equivalent;
8-10 years demonstrated leadership experience in a non-profit or to comparable organization with demonstrated ability to manage a large, complex and volunteer-based social services program;
Strong business management experience including experience with networking, fundraising and grant writing.
Demonstrated background in working for or practicing in a Christian service environment, preferably United Methodist, where individual spiritual gifts can be used to facilitate the mission of Floris UMC.
