JOB DESCRIPTION FOR YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTER
ATONEMENT LUTHERAN CHURCH

Atonement is a community of believers in which growing numbers of children and youth may know, serve, and love Jesus Christ.

Job Title: Youth and Family Minister
Reports to: Pastor John Macholz
Salary: $14,000 - $18,000
Hours: Approximately 20 hours/week

Qualifications:
The Youth and Family Minister (YFM) must have educational background and/or experience in youth and family ministry, and be Christian by baptism. A passion and energy for ministry with young people and their families, effective communication skills and the ability to establish rapport with young people are important. The YFM must understand family systems along with child and adolescent development in the context of today’s culture. He/she must be self-directed and disciplined, have the ability to work with and train volunteers, and work well as a team member.

Responsibilities:
The primary calling of the YFM is to guide young people in their spiritual, social and personal growth. The YFM has responsibility for the following:

• Establishing caring and trusting relationships with the young people of the church and their families
• Developing programs in the following four areas of ministry:
1. Youth ministry (grades 6-12),
2. Children’s ministry (pre-school-grade 5)
3. Family fellowship
4. Parent education.
• Reaching out in the community to invite others to participate in Atonement’s programs
• Supporting youth involvement in all areas of congregational life
• Working collaboratively with other ministry areas of the congregation
• Staying current with reading and continuing education opportunities
• Developing budget for youth and family ministry
• Attending regularly scheduled meetings of staff and other appropriate committees.

The YFM is expected to attend worship services at Atonement on Sunday mornings and be available to assist with programs during the Sunday School hour.
Time allocation: Youth ministry will be the main focus of the Youth and Family Minister’s time. The remaining time will be divided among Church Family Fellowship, Children’s Ministry, and Parent Education
