Duties and Responsibilities
I. Program
a. Provide leadership to congregational singing and praise during the traditional service.
b. Coordinate and direct special music for the traditional service.
c. Recruit members to participate in the music ministry, primarily the choir.
d. Oversee music for extra worship services (e.g., Combined Services, Easter Week,
Thanksgiving and Christmas, and any other special services planned by the Session)
Coordinate with praise band as needed.
e. Occasionally supervise music ministry outreach (e.g., caroling, nursing home,
developmental center).
f. Direct youth choir(s) or coordinate with any youth choir directors, as needed.
II. Direct Responsibilities
a. Coordinate all music for Traditional Service with the Pastor.
b. Accompany on organ and piano for all music for the traditional service.
c. Plan, coordinate and direct the Adult Choir in rehearsals and traditional worship services.
d. Provide for special music when the choir is not singing in the traditional service.
e. Work with praise band to provide music for summer combined worship services.
f. (optional) Accompany praise band on keyboard.
III. Administrative
a. Plan a yearly traditional music calendar that ensures a variety of familiar and new
songs, keeping an accurate record of all music used in the
traditional worship service for future reference.
b. Assure compliance with CCLI license agreement.
c. Notify church secretary of weekly music selections in time for bulletin deadlines.
d. Coordination of the Music Ministry’s annual budget with the Music & Worship Committee.
e. Ensures that traditional music information is included in the Church’s monthly newsletter,
as needed.
f. Attend the Music and Worship Committee’s monthly meetings.
g. Assure the music library is maintained in an orderly fashion.
h. Coordinate tuning of piano(s) and organ maintenance when necessary
i. Work with church secretary to compile and maintain an up-to-date substitute list for organist/ pianist accompanists.
j. Coordinate music for weddings and funerals with Pastor (extra compensation for weddings).
