POSITION: Director of Music Ministry
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Senior Minister
QUALIFICATIONS
Spiritual - Maintain a vital and growing personal walk with our Lord through prayer and
meditation.
Personal - Strong leadership skills, fun personality, desire to build relationships with
church members
Technical - Teaching and conducting experience, preferably a music degree--choral or
instrumental
POSITION: The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for assisting the church in planning, conducting, and evaluating a comprehensive Music Ministry.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Direct the planning, coordination, operation and evaluation of a comprehensive Music Ministry.
2. Supervise and offer support and guidance to the Music Ministry:
Organist
Pianist
Childrens Choirs
Youth Choirs
Adult Choirs
Chimes and Handbells
Childrens Place Music
Instrumental Music
Music Library
Accompanists
3. Coordinate the Church Music Ministry with the calendar.
4. Work with the Music Ministry Team in determining music ministry goals, organization, leadership, facilities, finances and administrative process.
5. Attend meetings: staff meetings, worship committee, church council, church family dinners, new member dinners, chancel choir officers, etc.
6. Assist the Senior Minister, when needed, in planning congregational services of the church and be responsible for the selection of the music.
7. Be available for counsel and arrange and provide music for special projects, ministries, weddings, funerals and other church-related activities in cooperation with appropriate individuals or groups.
8. Direct Chancel Choir
Provide music for the traditional worship services
Preview and select music that is appropriate for the season (appealing to the congregation and presenting a challenge to the singers, but not overwhelming)
Provide music for special services as directed by the Senior Minister
Ensembles
Offer the opportunity for small ensembles.
Assist with music selection.
Coach on an as-needed basis.
Coordinate their participation in worship
9. Work in cooperation with the appropriate persons in selecting, enlisting, training, and counseling with accompanists and other musicians who serve in church program organization.
10. Be responsible for enlisting and training leaders for the Church Music Ministry.
11. Coordinate the performance schedules of music groups and individuals in the functions of the church.
12. Prepare an annual budget to be recommended to the Finance Committee.
13. Be available to nurture members of the Music Ministry on an as-needed basis.
