Worship Pastor/Director Ministry Job Description and Mission Statement
Position: Worship Pastor/Director - Part Time
This is the ministry description for the position of Worship Director/Pastor at Shoreline Community Church in Santa Barbara, California. We hope it helps give you an idea of what we are looking for in a worship/music leader.
Requirements for the position
Experience requirements:
We would prefer 4-5 years of experience in Music/Worship ministry/leading, however we are willing to consider those who have the other requirements without this much experience. We are more than willing to consider a younger person who has just graduated from school (or even still in school) but meets the other qualifications we are seeking.
Educational requirements:
It would be good if you had a degree in some kind of advanced music though not absolutely necessary. A Bachelors degree is a real plus, especially if it involves music/worship focus.
Personal requirements:
Truly love Jesus, personally and passionately
Have a heart anxious to go on mission to win the lost through music/worship
Personal godliness and a vibrant walk with Christ that is evident to all
Giftedness requirements:
Be strong vocally, not just instrumentally. Playing keyboard effectively strongly preferred
Must be able to read music and effectively direct a chorale
Be effective in leading various groups, bands, etc., in different styles of music/worship ministry
Be able to teach and help others develop their music gifts as well - being a good judge of vocal and instrumental quality
Be strongly self motivated and be willing to help develop a vision for this ministry
Have the ability/desire to recruit and challenge people to b_noemaile involved in worship/music ministry. We don't want you to do everything! We want you to lead worship, but we also want you to help empower and train others to work in music/worship ministries within our church under your leadership and guidance.
Relational requirements:
Work well with people, and have a joyful and winsome personality. You will be working with a number of really great and gifted people who work well to ether already, and we want that to continue.
Be patient with people, not temperamental. Worship and musical ministry is the goal, not personal or church glory or perfection. One of our values is that people are to be loved, not used.
Have an ability/eagerness to work in a cross-cultural setting. The majority of our Children in our children's ministry and our youth ministry are Hispanic. Most are second generation so they speak English well, however the ability to speak Spanish would be a real plus!
