Organist/Accompanist Job - St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Charlotte, North Carolina

Key responsibilities:
Choose and play prelude and postlude at 11am Sunday Mass using our three manual, 60-rank Ahlborn-Galanti electric_noemailan or our Young Chang baby grand piano. Work with the Music Director to provide a_noemailpaniment for anthems, extended works, and other music as needed. Create and foster working relationships with volunteer a_noemailpanists and other members of our music ministry. Attend and play for scheduled weekly choir rehearsals and special rehearsals as they arise. Provide music for other church functions as needed, including but not limited to High Holy Days (e.g. Easter Triduum, Midnight Mass at Christmas, First Communion, and Confirmation Masses), congregational functions and other events as needed. You will also be asked to participate in at least one major musical production annually and may also be asked to prepare an annual recital in collaboration with the music director or other volunteers.

Position requires:

Proficiency in a_noemailpanying under a conductor, strong sight-reading skills, ability to work in social harmony with pastoral staff and volunteers. An understanding of the Roman Catholic Mass and its format are essential. Familiarity with GIA and OCP resources and_noemailmon tunes is encouraged. A good choral singing voice is definitely a plus.

Compensation:

Will be on a contract, per-service basis and will be based on experience and merit. Additional_noemailpensation may be available for weddings and funerals, and for subbing for the music director when absent. The a_noemailpanist can expect to be significantly less busy in the summer months, but more busy during Holy seasons, averaging two services/week. Responsibilities and_noemailpensation may grow with satisfactory performance depending on parish needs.

About our St. John Neumann parish and music ministry:

St. John Neumann's beautiful all-brick sanctuary was dedicated in 1985. A parish of 1400 families in East Charlotte, St. John Neumann serves a highly socially diverse suburban population and a growing Hispanic demographic. Under the leadership of our pastor Fr. Pat Hoare, St. John Neumann has realized a strong resurgence in congregational growth and participation. St. John Neumann holds six Masses every weekend, including a Hispanic Mass and a contemporary Mass following the Lifeteen tradition. Our music ministry has grown steadily over the past five years under the leadership of Peppie Calvar, participating in our annual Diocesan Eucharistic Congress choir in each of the last two seasons as the best represented parish in the Diocese.
