Contemporary Worship Leader
Job Description: Part time with a full time possibility based on qualifications and experience.
Church Profile: Good Shepherd United Methodist Church is a congregation of just under 800 members with an average worship attendance of nearly 500. Accountable to: Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee
Works Closely with: Pastors, Administrative Assistant, church staff, and volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications: Training or experience in Music Ministry is required. Experience starting or planning a worship service is required. Degree in Music Ministry or equivalent is preferred but not required. Experience in technical arts, media, and visual arts is preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Must have mature understanding of the Christian faith and promote the growth and deepening of the Christian faith through worship arts experiences.
Initial Responsibilities: Lead a team to create a vision and implementation plan for a creative, highly participatory worship experience. With the direction of the Committee on Nominations and Leadership and pastor, create an alternate style of worship that is not currently offered at GSUMC. Recruit and train a team of musicians, artists, sound technicians, or other individuals necessary to launch this new service. Create a timeline for launching.
Summary of Responsibilities: The contemporary worship leader will work with the pastor and worship planning team to plan and execute contemporary worship experiences targeting those who are part of the emerging generation. This person will be responsible for all aspects of contemporary worship at Good Shepherd UMC including volunteers, materials, and equipment. He/she will be committed to the church's mission and vision and will strive to integrate contemporary worship into the life of the church.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate a contemporary worship experience
Recruit, develop, motivate, supervise and shepherd a gifted and talented music team of volunteers, leaders, musicians, and artists, challenging them to grow in a variety of media to be used in worship.
Communicates effectively with congregation, pastors, staff, and volunteers.
Strives to incorporate the participation of all the congregation
Creates and submits an annual budget for contemporary worship arts
Responsible for set-up, tear-down, procurement, storing and maintenance of equipment and materials needed for contemporary worship.
Responsible for scheduling and overseeing all rehearsals pertaining to Contemporary Worship
Assist with special worship events as required.
Travel to attend meetings, conferences, presentations, and seminars as needed
Knows, understands, and takes annual training in the Child Protection Guidelines.
Reach the community through worship arts
Attend staff meetings as required
Work with the youth director in utilizing existing youth worship musicians
An authentic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Participate in the life and ministry of the church.
Ability to shepherd volunteer musicians in the Christian life.
Attested musical skills and competence.
