Job Description:
Grace UMC, Wilmington, NC is seeking a permanent part-time Director of Family Ministries (DFM) for immediate hire. GUMC is a thriving congregation with a long-standing reputation for its active children's and youth ministries programs. Grace's traditional services offer Nursery, Sunday School, and evening programs for children and youth, pre-K to 12th grade. The successful candidate will be responsible for hiring, managing, and overseeing staff and programs for babies, children, and youth. The overall purpose of GUMC is to point people to the cross of Jesus Christ.
Position Overview
-Recruit, train and coordinate workers for Children's Ministry, Youth Ministry and Parenting resource classes including events, worship services and programs.
-Develop and maintain physically, emotionally, and spiritually safe and secure programming for children, that adheres to the GUMC Safe Sanctuaries guidelines for all children's activities at GUMC.
-Work with Family Ministry Council, parents, pastors, and SPRC to carry out the roles and responsibilities of the DFM.
-Develop and maintain the Family Ministry budget. This includes submission, ongoing control, and providing reports and forms to the Director of Operations at Grace.
-Organize, set up, and stock classrooms with necessary supplies.
-Coordinate with staff to provide clear planning for programs, including Vacation Bible School, and missions.
-Coordinate with Children's Choir Director to provide a comprehensive music ministry program for children and youth.
-Offer the children's sermon in weekly Sunday services, both 8:30 and 11:00, and Sunday evening programs (5-6P.M.).
-Permanent part-time position averaging 25 hours/week reporting to the Senior Pastor.

-Demonstrates passion about the Christian faith and committed to the mission of spreading the love of Jesus Christ.
-Demonstrate skills as a highly capable educator and the ability to manage a dynamic group of volunteers to create positive experiences for children, youth and volunteers.
-Bachelor's Degree in Christian Education, early childhood or elementary specialization, children ministries, or similar. Experience preferred.
-Knowledge and experience in United Methodist faith practices and beliefs, child and faith development, and religious educational theory and practice preferred.
-Familiarity with and ability to guide and assist with selection of current age-appropriate children's ---Protestant Christian Education programming materials.
-Comfortable with public speaking.
