Purpose: The Choir Director's primary focus is to coordinate and plan the music program(s) associated with the traditional style service that will allow the congregation to participate in their worship of Jesus Christ. The Choir Director prepares the choir for their role in worship and supervises the church organist and pianist.
Responsibilities:
Direct the hymns and choir anthems for the Sunday morning traditional worship services.
Plan the hymns for the Sunday morning traditional worship services in collaboration with the pastor and staff during the choir's vacation month (typically during the summer).
Select choir anthem music for the Sunday morning traditional worship services. Selections should provide a variety of music, including traditional and contemporary styles. Whenever possible, the anthem should follow the theme or sermon for the worship service.
Purchase new music within budget, as needed.
Rehearse the choir weekly (Wednesday evenings) and at additional times as identified by special needs.
Work closely with accompanists.
Select and arrange for musical presentations at additional services during Holy Week and Advent/Christmas season.
Arrange for special soloists, accompanists or instrumentalists when needed.
Maintain the music library with the help of the music librarian.
Budget Duties:
Maintain choir music budget.
Submit annual budget to the church leadership for approval.
Other Responsibilities:
Attend Staff meetings to facilitate communication and planning.
Responsible for finding a substitute when absent.
Accountability: Accountable to the pastor as head of staff. Accountable to the choir as a musical and spiritual leader.
The core of the group is highly committed. The program was able to offer music for online services during the height of the pandemic. After resuming live services, choir attendance has averaged about 20 voices. We feel there is great growth potential under the right dynamic leadership. The members of the Choir share strong bonds of love of music, singing, and Jesus Christ.
