The Music Director is primarily responsible for the leadership of the Chancel Choir, including the growth, development and performance of the choir and for the selection and rehearsal of repertoire.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct the Chancel Choir in Sunday services September to June
Direct the Chancel Choir in additional "special services"
Coordinate rehearsal and performance schedules
Collaborate with the Pastoral staff in choosing choral repertoire and selecting music for each service
Arrange for and rehearse special music (soloists, groups, other musicians) for services when the Chancel Choir is not available
Manage the music library
Provide leadership for the overall musical growth of the congregation
Recruit and develop choir membership
Provide support and consultation to the Director of the Children's Choir
Collaborate with the Church Staff on managing the budget for the Chancel Choir
Ability and willingness to support the mission of the Lafayette Christian Church in all work-related activities.
Proficiency in directing vocal groups for concerts, services or other public performances
Ability and willingness to work with and nurture a small group of amateur singers of all abilities
Proficiency on piano in a rehearsal setting is preferred
Three years or more experience conducting church choirs is preferred
Familiarity with a wide range of church musical styles, including contemporary and traditional
Experience conducting and coordinating with a pianist /_noemailanist
Excellent verbal_noemailmunication skills
Strong interpersonal and_noemailanizational skills
Bachelor's Degree in Music, Vocal Music, Vocal Performance, Conducting or similar preferred
