The First Baptist Church of Peru, Indiana is searching for a full-time staff member to oversee the spiritual formation/discipleship programming of our congregation. The Director of Discipleship (DD) will maintain and enrich some of our current programming. However, we anticipate the DD creating,_noemailanizing and overseeing the implementation of additional programs. The DD's leadership and responsibility levels will vary according to the needs of each program: some programs will warrant full and direct participation, while others will require only an advisory capacity. Most programs will need something in between those extremes. Because the DD will be fulfilling such a foundational role in the life of our congregation, he/she will work in close partnership with the Senior Pastor. We will also invite the DD to serve in the life of the congregation as time, gifts and leading present the opportunity.
Currently, the potential participants in FBC's spiritual formation/discipleship programs span a large range of age and faith experience. We have well established children and youth ministries which have been designed with a developmental approach. Both of these ministries are guided and carried out by the Family Ministry Team. We have Sunday School for all ages each week. Several small groups for youth and adults are active. Other programs of a periodic nature include Genesis (a new member's class), VBS and mission trips.
We believe our greatest current challenge is the spiritual formation/discipleship of our congregation. Having experienced the fruit of staff designated specifically for the spiritual formation of our youth, we believe we must provide the same intentionality and leadership to the spiritual formation/discipleship of the congregation as a whole. We are convinced this step is essential to fulfilling our mission of "helping people find and follow Jesus."
