Senior Pastor: Our close-knit body of believers (200+) is seeking a new senior pastor to step into the role being vacated by the retirement of our current pastor after ten years of ministry. We are looking for someone to help us develop innovative outreach approaches to the greater Irmo_noemailmunity, while consistently building up our current believers. Our town is a well-established suburb of Columbia, South Carolina, our state's capital city, and the home of multiple colleges and universities. We are praying for a shepherd skilled in teaching/preaching using contemporary technical tools to reach a multigenerational body that has above average biblical literacy. Strong team building skills will aid this individual as he works in harmony with the elder board in setting ministry vision and goals for the church. Graduate-level training that includes work in original Hebrew and Greek texts, as well as solid theological expertise are a requisite. We are a doctrinally conservative, evangelical, non-charismatic fellowship with a modestly contemporary worship style and relaxed Sunday service atmosphere. We have a strong emphasis on small groups that meet in homes during the week and have an in-depth engagement in world missions, with a desire to see increased missions mobilization within our body. The successful candidate will have solid strengths in_noemailmunicating Scripture clearly; and, while certainly not required, an enjoyment of college football and golf would make life in our_noemailmunity, and within our congregation, that much richer. Fellowship Bible Church (FBC) is located in Columbia, SC, actually in Irmo, SC, a suburb approximately 15 miles from center city Columbia. Access to Lake Murray – a mecca for fishing, boating and all types of water sports is less than a half mile from the church. Other recreational opportunities for individuals and the family include the award winning Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Children's Edventure Center, Congaree National Park, several rivers for kayaking and numerous golf courses for those so inclined.
Columbia is the state capital, home to the University of South Carolina which offers both cultural opportunities and South Eastern Conference (SEC) athletics. There is a class A minor league baseball team (Fireflies) and a summer league college team the Lexington Blowfish. Fort Jackson, a major basic training facility for the Army is located in Columbia.
Shopping, both downtown and in the suburbs offer most major brands and local merchants offer variety of wares for the consumer. Fine dining is available as well as every imaginable fast food outlet.
School districts surrounding FBC are well regarded and several private and Christian schools are available, along with a strong homeschool_noemailmunity. Reasonable housing is available near the church as well in surrounding nearby developments.
Three interstates (I-26, I-20, I-77) pass through Columbia offering access to other parts of the state as well as all points of the_noemailpass. Traffic is certainly not like Atlanta or Charlotte but can be patience testing during rush hour. The Blue Ridge Mountains are 2.5 hours away, Myrtle Beach is 3 hours away, Charleston is about 2 hours and Atlanta is about 3 hours away.
