Associate Pastor
Job Description:
Evangelical Community Church ("ECC"), an English-speaking, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in Hong Kong, now seeks to appoint a man of God to be its Associate Pastor to_noemailplement and assist the Senior Pastor in leading, teaching, and caring for the people of Evangelical Community Church. We are a Gospel-centered church with a vision of "cultivating ambassadors," characterized by a balance of the four areas of Worship, Nurture, Community Formation, and Outreach.
ECC is an Elder Board-led church. The Senior Pastor serves on the board as an ex-officio member, and is accountable to the board.
The Associate Pastor reports directly to the Senior Pastor. He must be_noemailfortable with a Congregational/Board of Elders form of church governance. The Associate Pastor works closely with the Senior Pastor to: promote the church's vision; train and mobilize the congregation for ministry; promote outreach and missions; preach and teach; and provide pastoral care. The Associate Pastor's primary focus will be rendering pastoral care and overseeing small groups.
The Associate Pastor leads by example and cultivates a positive spirit throughout the ECC family. He also represents Christ in the larger Hong Kong_noemailmunity. He is a team player, supporting the Senior Pastor to manage ministry staff and working harmoniously with other staff. He should be flexible, in that he will need to wear multiple ministry "hats." His role may evolve over time. He must be teachable, under the guidance of the Senior Pastor, and seek to grow as an effective, fruitful, and faithful pastor of Christ's Church. He must be accessible and personable, taking initiative to connect with members of the congregation, visitors, leaders, staff, as well as those outside the church.
The responsibilities and expectations of the role are as follows:
Has a growing relationship with God and people.
Is_noemailmitted to personal Bible study and prayer.
Has personal integrity and models godly qualities to others.
Has a humble and teachable spirit.
Is able to share the load and work closely with the Senior Pastor to shepherd wisely a church_noemailprised of people of diverse backgrounds, convictions, and maturity levels.
Is able to balance ministry, family, as well as emotional and physical well-being.
Exemplifies a Great Commission lifestyle.
Has an excellent character and a demonstrable work ethic.
Coordinates and participates in pastoral care to individuals and families, including hospital visitation, marriage and crisis counseling, making referrals to professionals when appropriate.
Directs the small group ministry. This includes recruiting, overseeing, encouraging, and equipping small group leaders, and helping to start new groups.
Coordinates assimilation events and ministries to help engage ne_noemailers in the life of the church.
Assists the Senior Pastor in mentoring and training future leaders of the church.
Advises and guides the mission_noemailmittee in its work of mobilizing the congregation for local outreach and missions abroad.
Shares in preaching on Sundays (at least once every four months) and teaching Adult Education classes, seminars, studies, and other events as directed by the Senior Pastor.
Qualifications and Experiences:
Master's degree from a reputable seminary is required.
At least 7 years of significant pastoral experience.
Evidence of effective leadership in his family, church, and_noemailmunity.
Leadership experience in a multi-staffed pastoral team setting (a team player).
Cross-cultural experience and adaptability to a multi-cultural environment.
