The Assistant Director of Music Worship and Arts (ADMWA) is a full-time position with responsibility for carrying out the mission and vision of St. James Methodist Church (SJUMC) Music Worship and Arts Ministries. The position reports to the Minister of Music and serves as an active and collaborative member of the Music Worship and Arts leadership team.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Plans, administers, and directs the Men of Valor and Youth music ministries of the church in collaboration with the Minister of Music
Assists with recruiting and overseeing members of several Music Worship & Arts ministries
Attends weekly evening choir rehearsals and both Sunday morning worship services
Assists with teaching, a_noemailpanying the_noemailan/piano, and/or directing other choirs as needed while promoting and encouraging overall participation in the music ministry
Helps to develop new music programming in collaboration with the minister of music
Assists in the administration and planning, coordination, and development of the overall music program of the church, including, the church staff, Department directors, servant workers, musicians, all choirs, and the congregation
Helps to build and increase participation within the youth praise team and the Men of Valor by engaging all ages with different music styles, genres, and instruments
Assists with recruiting and incorporating singers from the congregation, the_noemailmunity, and assists with the hiring of instrumentalists, vocal soloists, and section leaders as needed
Assists in securing guest artists for various special church music related events and occasions throughout the church calendar year in collaboration with the Minister of Music
Participates and attends special events, (i.e. Seven Last Words, MWA Workshop, Revivals, Day of WOW, Jazz Fest, and Christmas Cantata)
Ability to provide coverage for Director of Music (DM) during the time of their absence, oversees the Music Library, and leads other choirs and groups as needed
Works closely with DM to assure timely, appropriate documentation for payment of MWA is processed and submitted weekly/monthly
Confers regularly with church staff, volunteers, and appropriate church_noemailmittees or boards
Prepares Worship Planning Sheets and calendar Management for MWA
Adheres to church policies, procedures, and applicable State and Federal laws and regulations
Continues professional and personal growth in music-related and church-related studies
Qualifications and Required Skills:
Strong spiritual and moral character
Bachelor's degree in Music or 3-5 year's experience as a musician and Director of Music
Training in choir conducting, the ability to proficiently play piano_noemailan, and an intermediate level to read music and effectively_noemailmunicate musically with the band
Experience in leading and teaching Praise and Worship
Conducting and directing traditional, contemporary, and sacred gospel music
Teamwork, collaboration, and a collegial approach in working with others
Performing and leading appropriate diverse styles of music, and current trends of Youth Choir and Male Chorus teachings
Excellent verbal and written_noemailmunication
Program planning,_noemailanization, and punctuality is required
This position is full time and is paid bi-monthly. The salary range, $38,000-$43,000, is based on qualifications and experience. Benefits are provided.
