Job Description:
The Children's Ministry Director provides leadership, vision, and oversight for all aspects of ministry to children (nursery through 5th grade) and their families. This role exists to partner with parents in discipling children, ensuring that kids are rooted in Scripture, experiencing gospel-centered community, and being equipped to follow Jesus.
Key Responsibilities
Sunday Morning Worship & Discipleship
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee all Sunday morning children's worship services, Bible studies, and small group opportunities.
- Ensure teaching is biblically faithful, developmentally appropriate, and engaging.
- Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for children's classes and worship services.
- Provide curriculum and resources to teachers and leaders.
Family Events & Outreach
- Coordinate quarterly family events (e.g., family fun days, outreach activities, parenting seminars).
- Develop opportunities for children and families to connect with the wider church body.
- Support churchwide outreach initiatives by providing child-friendly entry points.
Pastoral Care & Discipleship of Children
- Build relationships with children and families to encourage spiritual growth.
- Provide age-appropriate pastoral care, prayer, and discipleship opportunities.
- Encourage children to actively participate in worship, service, and mission.
Leadership Development & Volunteer Care
- Recruit, train, and equip volunteers to serve in children's ministry.
- Provide ongoing support, encouragement, and accountability for leaders.
- Cultivate a culture of teamwork, joy, and excellence in ministry.
Curriculum & Resources
- Select, adapt, and provide curriculum for different age groups.
- Develop supplemental materials for parents to reinforce teaching at home.
- Ensure resources are aligned with the church's vision, theology, and mission.
Community & Fellowship
- Foster groups and fellowship opportunities for children outside of Sunday mornings (e.g., kids midweek gatherings, service projects, VBS).
- Encourage intergenerational relationships between children and the wider church family.
Administration & Communication
- Oversee check-in systems, safety policies, and background checks.
- Manage ministry budget and resource allocation.
- Communicate clearly with parents, volunteers, and church staff.
- Regularly update church leadership on ministry progress, challenges, and needs.
