Contemporary Worship Leader Job - Floris United Methodist Church, Herndon, Virginia

Responsibilities

Following the direction of the Director of Worship, manages the music program for the contemporary worship services (typically Sundays 9:15am and 5:00pm) and directs the employees and volunteers dedicated to serving during these services; including musicians and A/V personnel. Makes r_noemailmendations to the pastoral staff on vocal, instrumental, and recorded music suitable to the type of worship service and the ability of the group performing.

Serves as Contemporary Worship Leader by directing contemporary adult musical groups at rehearsals and services to achieve desired effects, such as tonal and harmonic balance dynamics, rhythm and tempo. Auditions and selects vocal and instrumental groups for musical presentations, plans and schedules rehearsals, works with a_noemailpanists, manages guest soloists and ensemble groups,_noemailanizes and maintains music library and band equipment, and researches and recruits outside musical groups to enhance the experience of the parishioners. At the direction of the Director of Worship, plans and implements special music events, including but not limited to, providing music for student events, retreats and church-wide events.

Removes the Director of Worship from any administrative burdens of the contemporary music area by directing the daily business operations of these groups to include, but not limited to, performing administrative tasks such as developing budgets,_noemailanizing rehearsals, managing volunteers, assuring copyright_noemailpliance, and recruiting other participants. Follows Floris UMC business processes and ensures they are followed accordingly. Identifies problem areas and r_noemailmends operational policies and practices to the Associate Pastor to ensure a consistent and inspirational music experience for all parishioners.

Serves as a strategic resource to the Director of Worship on the overall direction of the music program and makes specific r_noemailmendations on how to creatively incorporate music into worship services, including but not limited to; drama, dance, solos. Partners with the other employees in the music program and serves as a strategic resource to the Floris UMC staff.

Qualifications

BA or equivalent in music.

A minimum of 4 years of experience in directing music using a diverse set of musical styles and experience.

Ability to play a musical instrument.

Ability to transcribe musical_noemailpositions and melodic lines to adapt them to or create a particular style.

Knowledge of the importance of music in worship and Christian spiritual development in the United Methodist tradition.

Strong critical thinking and problem solving abilities in a dynamic environment.

Ability to seek out, hear and manage constructive feedback.

Ability to think creatively, using good judgment about which creative ideas will work in the Floris setting, and be open to input in this area.

Willing to learn new skills as necessary to support excellence in work product.

Strong_noemailanizational skills with the ability to develop schedules and task/people assignments.

Ability and desire to work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers.

Ability to manage volunteer teams, which includes the recruiting and training of volunteers.
