Job Description:

POSITION: Director of Children and Youth Ministries (DCYM)

STATUS: Part-time ~ 20 to 25 hours per week. (This is not envisioned as a Sunday Morning responsibility, though it is expected that the Director of Children and Youth Ministries will be present on Sunday Morning approximately once a month.)

HOURS and COMPENSATION: $15-$20 / hour (based on training and/or experience)

General Purpose of Position:

To build young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a_noemailprehensive approach to children (k-6th) and youth (7th-12th) ministry (in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach) while serving as a spiritual leader and role model.

The Primary Tasks:

The primary tasks of children and youth ministry are to:
love children and youth where they are
encourage children and youth in developing their relationship to God
provide children and youth with opportunities for nurture and growth
challenge children and youth to respond to God's call to serve in their_noemailmunities and world

Qualifications and Aptitudes:

The Director of Children and Youth Ministries (DCYM) will:
embrace Christian discipline and Presbyterian Church (USA) theology
have education, or training in a related field and/or 3-5 years' experience
have vision, enthusiasm and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a children and youth ministry
have good written and verbal_noemailmunication skills, interpersonal skills, and_noemailputer skills.
be able effectively to relate with children, youth, parents and others from diverse social situations
have a valid driver license and pass a required background check

The Director of Children and Youth Ministries (DCYM) will:
be an advocate for children and youth and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of children and youth in the local church and_noemailmunity
help plan, develop, and implement aspects of a balanced children and youth
periodically evaluate progress toward reaching the vision and goals of the children and youth ministry
mentor children and youth in developing their leadership skills.
use appropriate programming resources and participate in continuing education and training opportunities
recruit and train parents and volunteers to work with children and youth
relate to other_noemailmunity_noemailanizations, people, and resources involved with children and youth
work in partnership with the Outreach Committee to reach unchurched children and youth in the
keep records of participation and manage the children and youth ministry budget.
maintain good_noemailmunication with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole
be available to children and youth in a variety of ways (i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc.)
maintain a teamwork mentality
ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all children and youth ministry settings.

Organizational Relationship and Supervision:

The Director of Children and Children and youth Ministries (DCYM):
reports to the Pastor for spiritual and ministry guidance
cooperates with the Personnel Committee in an annual evaluation of the DCYM's performance.
is subject to Presbyterian Church (USA) polity
attends regular meetings of the Christian Education Committee
