Roles
1. Lead Visionary: Helps the church to see where God is leading us.
2. Primary preacher
a. Responsible for ensuring a clear and explicit gospel is taught from the pulpit
b. Responsible for holding all preachers accountable to strong hermeneutical principles in their sermons
c. Responsible for creating preaching/teaching opportunities for aspiring Bible teachers.
3. Lead Pastor/Elder initiates and influences elder board decisions but has one vote just like other elders. Lead Elder chairs the Administrative Elder Team, who are responsible for personnel, property, and the church budget.
4. General Ministry Director: Provides guidance to all ministry leaders.
5. Leader and manager of paid staff and all ministry leaders not placed under the supervision of a different Elder.
6. Liaison of the church to the NorCal District of the Church of God
7. Liaison of the church to the community of Citrus Heights.
Pastoral Expectations
1. To lead the Elders in pastoring the flock
2. To lead the Elders in the ministry of prayer (Acts 6:4)
3. To lead the Elders in the ministry of the Word (Acts 6:4)
4. To lead the Elders in equipping the saints (Ephesians 4:12)
Teaching Expectations
1. Design the preaching calendar in accordance with the vision and needs of the church
2. Preach at least 41 sermons per year (40 Sundays plus the Christmas Candlelight Service) - Facilitate guest preachers and current gifted elders to fill remaining Sundays.
3. Provide guidance to those filling the pulpit regarding the overall series in which
they are preaching
4. Provide coaching in sermon development/preaching to any people in
the church who have teaching/preaching potential
Counseling and Mentorship Expectations
1. Provide individual counseling or referral to other counselors for persons
seeking individual counseling and guidance for any need of spiritual, relational,
emotional or crisis support.
2. Privileged Communication and Mandatory Reporting – Information received during counselings are to be confidential except when the nondisclosure of such information would jeopardize the safety of any person.
Leadership Expectations
1. Have a Christ-honoring vision, to communicate it, and to lead the church accordingly.
2. Provide leadership to all ministry leaders (paid and volunteer) in the design and implementation of all church ministries.
3. Ensure that every deacon is assigned an elder for oversight
4. Directly oversee weekend services
5. Directly run staff meetings and staff check-ins
6. Maintain effective communication between elders and deacons, whether paid or volunteer.
7. Discipline or remove staff members with a majority vote of the Administrative
Elder Team.
8. Hire employees for the purpose of better achieving the vision statements.
9. Oversee recommendations to the Administrative Elder Team regarding compensation of staff.
10.Conduct annual performance evaluations.
11. Provide and receive weekly feedback through check-ins.
Character Expectations
1. Be a man of integrity (1 Timothy 3:2)
2. Have an exemplary family life
3. Be personally active in evangelism and missions
4. Tithe to our church
5. Connect with the Spanish service at least once per month and maintain contact with the Spanish speaking leaders.
Workplace Expectations
1. Keep regular office hours and select two days off per week
2. Three Weeks Paid Vacation for revitalization
3. Invest 5-10% of his working hours on growing his professional skills as a shepherd, leader and communicator i.e. ministry conferences, local leadership groups, etc.
Denominational Expectations
1. Participate actively with the NorCal Church of God
The Lead Pastor can expect the Administrative Elders:
1. Review job performance annually.
2. Appoint a Lead Pastor Advocate from among the Administrative Elders. This advocate is responsible for making himself aware of:
a. The needs of the Lead Pastor's family
b. Current compensation packages of Lead Pastors in demographically similar churches in the area
c. The Consumer Price Index, inflation, housing trends...and to make an annual recommendation to the Administrative Elders regarding the adjustment of the Lead Pastor's compensation.
3. To send the Lead Pastor (and one other elder, if possible) to the National Conference of the Church of God every other year
Accountability
The Lead Pastor is accountable in all things to the Elders of Foundation Christian Church. The Elders are in turn accountable to the congregation, to the Scriptures, and to Christ.
Key Result Areas
1. The church has a purposeful and clear plan for achieving our vision and values.
2. The saints are cared for, protected, fed, and equipped for ministry.
3. The Elders regularly affirm the direction the church is going.
4. The church has a purposeful and clear plan for obeying the Great Commission.
5. The church sees growth in decisions for Christ, equipping believers, volunteerism, relationship cultivation, attendance, and small group participation.
