Open Door Baptist Church is a multigenerational, multicultural body of believers located in Kansas City, Kansas. We are seeking a humble, Spirit-led, and visionary Lead Pastor who will faithfully shepherd our congregation, preach the Word with clarity and conviction, and guide us into the next season of fruitful ministry.
About the Role
The Lead Pastor serves as the spiritual and organizational leader of Open Door Baptist Church. In partnership with the deacons, staff, and ministry leaders, the pastor provides leadership through preaching, teaching, pastoral care, discipleship, and administration—always with the goal of glorifying God and equipping the church to fulfill its mission.
Key Responsibilities
Preaching & Worship Leadership
Be a faithful student of the Bible to prepare and deliver biblically sound, engaging, expository sermons each week that encourage and challenge the congregation
Lead or oversee Sunday morning worship services
Conduct or oversee baptism and communion in accordance with church doctrine
Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship
Model a Christ-centered life of prayer, devotion, and servant leadership
Equip and disciple church members to grow in faith and serve in ministry
Foster spiritual maturity through teaching and small group engagement
Pastoral Care
Provide counseling, visitation, and support to individuals and families
Officiate weddings, funerals, and other special services
Maintain a ministry of presence among the congregation
Organizational Leadership
Supervise and mentor a diverse team of staff and volunteer ministry leaders
Work collaboratively with the deacons and church leadership team
Oversee the day-to-day functions of church programs and outreach efforts
Community Engagement & Missions
Promote local outreach and global missions as central to church life
Represent the church in the community and build relationships beyond the walls
(Other duties as assigned)
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Theology, Ministry, or related field (Master's preferred)
Ordained minister with at least 5 years of pastoral experience (10+ years preferred)
Demonstrated history of faithful involvement in church life and effective leadership
Theological & Doctrinal Alignment
Born again believer with a personal devotion to Jesus Christ
In full agreement with Open Door Baptist Church's statement of faith

Holds a Pre-Tribulation view of end-times doctrine
Embraces the authority and inerrancy of Scripture
Spiritual & Personal Characteristics
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

A consistent prayer life (Ephesians 6:18) and commitment to God's Word
Integrity, humility, and a teachable spirit (1 Timothy 6:9–11)
