Job Description:

The First Presbyterian Church of Howell (FPCH) is seeking a Music Director who feels called by Christ to serve our church community. The Music Director will maintain a deep commitment to the spiritual and musical needs of the church working through both traditional and contemporary music to strengthen the church and to enhance worship.

FPCH is blessed with both a Schantz Pipe Organ (18 Rank, excellent condition, Great in Swell and Separate Enclosures) and a Steinway L Grand Piano that are integral to our music program.
The Music Director is a part time (20-24 hours per week) position.

The Music Director reports directly to and is responsible to the Head of Staff and is under the counsel and evaluation of the Session through the Administration and Worship Teams.
Condensed Highlights of Position Responsibilities of the Music Director:
1. In consultation with the Head of Staff, will select and coordinate appropriate music and performances for all worship services of FPCH, building a strong inspirational music program;
2. Direct the Chancel Choir, Hand Bell Choir, and other choir programs for FPCH;
3. Recruit, train, and mentor choir members.
4. Encourage and invite members and visitors to participate in the music program through solos, duets, and instrumental pieces as appropriate to the worship service;
5. The Music Director is expected to function in harmony and be a contributing member of the ministry team comprised of the pastor, Worship Team, tech team, and church staff;

Job Qualifications:

Persons seeking this position must discern a genuine call to serve Christ and His church with his/her musical and spiritual gifts. Candidates will be required to demonstrate a professional level of musical talent and working knowledge and theological understanding of diverse styles of traditional and contemporary church music and instruments. A bachelor or graduate degree in sacred music, choral music education or related concentration is preferred. Experience in music direction or related experience, especially with church music ministry is also a plus.
