Position Summary:

The Senior Pastor is to help people become and grow as followers of Jesus. In this, the Senior Pastor's role may be outlined in terms of the following biblical descriptions:

Roles:

The role of the Grace Church's Senior Pastor is to help people become disciples of Jesus. In this, the Senior Pastor's role may be outlined in terms of the following biblical descriptions:

Elder: Spiritual leader of the church in a group of fellow Elders (Acts 20:28; Phil. 1:1; 1 Tim 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4).

Equipper: Partners with other leaders to empower and equip the congregation for service and

ministry by discovering, developing, and deploying their spiritual gifts (Eph. 4:12; 2 Tim. 2:2).

Preacher/Teacher: Effectively communicates God's Word in preaching and orchestrates growth

of Grace Church to maturity in Christ (Acts 6:4; Eph. 4:11; 2 Tim. 4:1-4; Titus 1:9).

Gospel Ministry: Models the practice of personal evangelism and ensures that the church is challenged and equipped to be obedient to the Great Commission (2 Tim. 4:5; Matt. 28:19).

Pastor/Shepherd: Models the heart of the Jesus, as the Head Shepherd and ensures that the church is well led, cared for, and protected (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:1-4).


Responsibilities:

Communicate Biblical Truth: The Senior Pastor is the principal preaching and teaching pastor/elder. He is expected to spend substantial time with God in prayer and in his Word each week in preparation to teach Biblical truth. He will participate in the planning of worship services and events in order to support staff and lay leaders to successfully coordinate these services and events.

Prayer: The Senior Pastor is to model a life of prayer. All in the church pray but our pastor is to guide and teach by example.

Cast Clear Vision: To lead the people forward, we must have a vision as a congregation. This clear sense of direction is needed to inspire momentum. The Senior Pastor is to set a clear vision for Grace Church working in concert with the Deacons and Elder Board so we know where we are going and how we are going to get there. The Senior Pastor will work with the Elders to establish a shared vision and purpose for the church and translate broad goals into achievable steps.

Leadership: While ultimately responsible to the Elder Board, the Senior Pastor will serve as the primary leader guiding the body to fulfill God's calling for our congregation. The Senior Pastor will work with the Elder Board, lay leaders and church staff to ensure our relevant ministry to the community, the accomplishment of our mission and vision, accountability to our membership, and to honor the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Develop Leaders: Ensure the discipleship and training of current and future leaders of the church with a focus depth and maturity.

Connect With the Community: The Senior Pastor is to be mission focused with a heart for the unsaved and seeks to cooperate with other local pastors, community groups, and governmental agencies in matters of mutual interest and concern.

Pastoral Care: He will oversee pastoral care, including visitation, biblical counseling, weddings, and funeral services which will by necessity be largely delegated to other lay and pastoral staff.


Hours:

The Senior Pastor will be expected to work 40 hours per week and to tithe additional hours as would be expected for all members of the church. This should not exceed a 50 hour work week on an ongoing basis.

The Senior Pastor will be given a minimum one uninterrupted 24 hour day off (not available to congregation for meetings, calls, texts, etc.) per week.

The Senior Pastor will maintain a healthy balance of diligent work and intentionally taking time off for his family and personal rest. The goal of this schedule is to responsibly serve the congregation, his family, and recognize his limits.

Job Qualifications:

Qualifications:
Education: A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited bible college with emphasis on pastoral ministry - a Masters of Divinity degree from an accredited seminary is preferred.

Experience: At least five years of ministry experience required. Full time pastoral ministry is preferred.

Character: Demonstrates and exemplifies the character qualities seen in 1 Timothy 3: 1 7; Titus 1: 5 9; 1 Peter 5:1-3. He should not be a recent convert to Christianity as he must have a mature faith and proven godly character.

Ability: Must be able to communicate God's Word in a variety of contexts including; preaching, teaching, writing, and by the example of his personal conduct and character. Must be able to pastorally counsel, officiate weddings, funerals, and baptisms. Must be able to administrate the regular functions of the church management in cooperation with the Elders, Deacons, and other leadership of the church.
