Job Summary
First Baptist Church of Greenwood, Indiana, an affiliated congregation of the American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA), is prayerfully seeking a Christ-centered, spiritually mature, and visionary Pastor to lead our congregation. The ideal candidate will be a passionate preacher and teacher of God's Word, a compassionate shepherd, and a dynamic leader who can guide our church into its next season of ministry. As the primary spiritual leader, the Pastor will oversee all aspects of church life—proclaiming the Gospel, nurturing discipleship, caring for the congregation, and advancing the mission of the church within the local community.
We are especially seeking a pastor with a heart for the next generation, who will actively champion ministries to children, youth, and families—helping them grow in Christ and become lifelong disciples.
Key Responsibilities
Pastoral Leadership & Ministry Oversight
Preaching & Teaching: Proclaim the Word of God through biblically grounded, engaging, and Spirit-led sermons. Facilitate Bible studies and teaching that foster discipleship and spiritual formation.
Leadership & Vision: Partner with church leadership to develop and implement a clear vision and mission that aligns with biblical values and inspires growth, outreach, and unity.
Pastoral Care: Provide compassionate care through counseling, crisis support, and regular visits to the sick, grieving, and homebound
Worship Services: Plan and lead worship in collaboration with the worship team and ministry leaders.
Church Administration: Oversee church operations, working with Diaconate, and mentor our staff to manage resources effectively.
Children & Youth Ministry Support: Work alongside staff and volunteers to nurture vibrant children's and youth ministries. Encourage participation, equip leaders, and ensure the spiritual development of young people within the church and community.
Community Engagement: Serve as a visible and active presence in the Greenwood community. Build relationships and lead outreach initiatives that extend the love of Christ beyond church walls.
Discipleship & Mentorship: Foster a culture of spiritual growth through discipleship pathways, small groups, and the training and mentoring of emerging leaders.
Conflict Resolution: Provide biblical guidance and mediation in times of conflict.
Stewardship & Fundraising: Champion stewardship initiatives and collaborate with church leadership in financial planning and fundraising efforts to support the mission and sustainability of the church.
