The Olean First Baptist Church is seeking a full time Senior Pastor. The Senior Pastor is a minister of the gospel whose religious beliefs are consistent with the doctrine and practices of the Olean First Baptist Church. His/her ordination to the ministry must meet those standards of education recommended by the American Baptist Churches/USA; and who by education and experience is qualified to assume both spiritual and administrative leadership. A candidate's call to serve as Senior Pastor will include satisfaction about moral character and conduct, personal spiritual conviction, preaching and pastoral aptitude, a cooperative attitude toward American Baptist Churches/USA. If the candidate's ordination is non-American Baptist, he/she must be willing to have their ordination recognized by the American Baptist Churches of New York State.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Pastor will:
Preach the Gospel
Administer the ordinances
Lead in the advancement of missions
Represent the church in the affairs of the community
Serve as ex officio member of all boards, committees, and auxiliary organizations
Establish regular office hours affording opportunity for contact and counsel when necessary to
include, but not limited to, premarital, marital, family, grief and loss
Create and follow a plan for regular and systematic pastoral and personal visitation of the
membership and community
Plan and direct, together with the Diaconate, all worship experiences and programs of the
church
Represent the church at national, state, and/or other denominational meetings when elected to
this purpose by the church
Supervise the pastoral staff and employ staff associates in cooperation with those boards
which have responsibility for the job performance of each staff member
Make recommendations to the appropriate board or committee for dismissal of associates,
assistants, or staff as considered necessary
Encourage by example a nurturing atmosphere within the congregation
