SENIOR PASTOR
POSITION DESCRIPTION
I. Position Summary: The Senior Pastor of New Beginnings Community Church (NBCC) is responsible for the spiritual welfare, overall program, growth, and body life of the church consistent with the NBCC Constitution. The senior pastor provides spiritual leadership in all areas of evangelism and discipleship, which requires developing, communicating, and coordinating vision with the church's board of elders, staff, and lay leaders as they minister and serve the church family and community. The senior pastor is responsible for the oversight and leadership of worship services and special events.
II. Reporting Relationships: The Senior Pastor reports directly to the church board of elders.
III. Major Duties And Responsibilities
A. Preaching and Worship Leadership (50%)
1. Prepares and delivers sermons that are biblically sound, relevant and seeker sensitive and challenge members and unchurched alike to become fully devoted followers of Christ.
2. Ensures that overall weekly worship services are effective and on target regarding content, doctrine, style, structure, and design.
Meets regularly with the Worship team to critique prior worship services and to plan future worship services regarding music selection, transitions, humor, and atmosphere.
Provides specific verses for scripture readings
3. Suggests and assists with planning of special worship services such as Christmas, Easter, and other special programs and outside speakers with the objective of boosting morale and worship attendance.
Works with staff to ensure timely and proper advertising and publicity.
Plans messages that are relevant for each occasion.
4. Oversees editing and uploading video of recorded sermons to NBCC website weekly.
B. Leadership Development and Discipleship (15%)
1. Takes the initiative in recommending and implementing actions that fulfill the vision and mission of NBCC.
2. As Senior Elder, leads, teaches, and trains the board in their duties as board members, spiritual leaders of the congregation, and witnesses to the community.
Ensures proper scheduling of business meetings and preparation of meeting agendas.
Provides effective leadership of meetings
3. Schedules and leads, educates and motivates elders and other leaders of the church regarding vision, mission, strategy, seeker sensitivity, what it means to be a "high impact" church, and other key matters.
Selects and meets with leadership team.
Delegates logistics and recruiting.
4. Provides for overall training, inspiration and motivation of NBCC staff to ensure that they are maturing in their faith, growing in their relationships with each other, and upgrading their skills.
Schedules periodic staff training to develop better teamwork and closer working relationships.
Takes the initiative in creating and documenting the NBCC vision statement. Places year-round emphasis on teaching, explaining, and discussing the meaning and application of the vision
Maintains and improves working relationships with staff
C. Faith Promise (15%)
1. Encourages the vision of our Faith Promise Program as faith based monthly/weekly or one time giving that is separate from tithing to the church supporting missions.
2. Promotes and oversees the annual Faith Promise annual missions support drive and budget.
D. Teaching and Discipleship (10%)
1. Organizes and teaches a weekly congregational Bible study series that provides an in-depth look at and interpretation of Scriptures.
2. Teaches a New Members Class pertaining to the following subject areas.
What the Bible says about the church.
What we believe at NBCC.
Vision, philosophy of ministry, covenant of behavior, and personal testimony.
E. Congregational Relations and Pastoral Care (10%)
1. Assists with maintaining a "high touch" ministry.
Hospital calling.
Reacts promptly to emergency/crisis situations.
Conducts baptisms, weddings, and funerals as requested and needed in accordance with the NBCC Constitution
2. Greets people in sanctuary before and after worship services; intentionally lingers with people around the church.
3. Schedules lunches with members and new people.
4. Circulates at various church events.
5. Attends program and social events for various church groups, such as Willow Network (formerly Care Net Pregnancy Center, etc.
6. Counsels as requested
