Sandston Baptist Church, located 15 miles outside of downtown Richmond, Virginia, seeks the senior pastor God is calling to join and lead our staff and congregation through engaging, Bible centered preaching and teaching that reaches the lost while nourishing those who are actively growing deeper in their faith. Sandston Baptist Church has a history of meaningful corporate worship with a warm and friendly atmosphere and has dynamic ministry groups for all ages that build relationships among the participants. We desire for our next pastor to be a highly relational person gifted in leading and discipling others and for our next pastor to embrace and help to lead community ministries already in place at Sandston Baptist Church. We pray that the shepherd called by God to lead our church will challenge us and lead us into new ministry and service opportunities that will expand the positive impact of Sandston Baptist Church in our local community and beyond. Applicants with a seminary degree or higher and more than 5 years of ministry experience are preferred.

SENIOR PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION:
PREACHING
· Prepares and delivers cohesive and spiritually nourishing sermons grounded in Biblical content that proclaim the gospel message
· Communicates a comprehensive understanding of the Bible and Christian theology
· Effectively relates preaching and teaching styles to varied ages and levels of Christian maturity
· Demonstrates a willingness to respond to needs of the church and community, for example by leading in additional worship services, adapting to alternate worship styles (e.g., traditional vs. contemporary) or schedules, etc.
PASTORING
· Through preaching and teaching in worship, Bible studies, small groups, discipleship opportunities or in informal situations, serves as a shepherd in guiding people in their Christian faith journey
· Ministers to, supports, and nurtures church members in times of need or coordinates support ministries carried out by other staff or laypersons
· Gives priority to important transition rituals, such as dedications, marriages, and funerals in the lives of individuals and families; plans activities to make such times as meaningful as possible
· Provides counseling to persons facing problems and life decisions and refers to appropriate resources when ongoing resource support is appropriate
LEADING
· Develops relationships and rapport through genuine, relatable interactions with church members, committees, teams, and staff members
· Demonstrates experienced and effective servant-leadership to encourage, inspire, motivate, and mobilize lay leadership and members to pursue the mission of the church
· Mentors, disciples, and/or coaches others in a manner designed to develop lay leadership within the congregation
· Models courageous, Spirit-led decision making in leading the church through common situations, through challenging times, or into new opportunities for ministry
· Leads the church staff in a positive manner that encourages, coordinates, and supports the ministry roles and needs of all staff members to magnify the impact of the individual roles
· Provides sound judgment in leadership of the use of individual and congregational resources
· Models biblical processes in conflict resolution to address potential or known problems promptly
· Cooperates and coordinates with ministry partners and affiliations (e.g., regional denominational organizations) to inform and lead the church through appropriate decision and gifting opportunities
ENGAGING IN MISSIONS
· Supports ongoing and established ministries of the church and leads the church in seeking and identifying new ministry opportunities that use the gifts and resources of the congregation
· Seeks God's guidance for leading the church in creative, new opportunities to follow the church's mission, "His Last Command, Our First Concern [Matthew 28:18-20]"
· Demonstrates a concern for identifying problems and needs in the community as ministry opportunities for the church
· Works with congregation toward goals intended to bring people to faith and to result in the growth of the local congregation
Applicants with a seminary degree or higher and more than 5 years of ministry experience are preferred
