Job Description:
Heaton Christian Church is seeking a Senior Pastor to serve all pastoral duties. The Senior Pastor will be appointed for an indefinite period of time by the church Elders, with confirmation by the congregation. Heaton Christian Church is a small and committed congregation of approximately 75 weekly attendees who are ready to support a new Senior Pastor. The church is full of dedicated believers and volunteers who serve as the body of Christ and facilitate frequent fellowship, study, and serving opportunities. The ideal candidate is content with a smaller congregation and community, but he is enthusiastic about growth and future opportunities for the church.
The Senior Pastor will have a primary responsibility of preaching and teaching in Biblically based doctrine, but he will have other responsibilities in cultivating the church body through fellowship, service, counseling, missionary, and other opportunities as needs may arise. He will serve as an elder of the church and work with and under the direction of the Elder Board. While some leadership duties may be delegated to elder and lay leadership, he is expected to support all ministries of the church (seniors, men's fellowship, women's, children, and youth). Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Proficient technology skills are highly requested, but not required. The Senior Pastor is expected to lead and live by example in his own relationship with the Lord and his family, if applicable.
Heaton Christian Church is located in Elk Park, North Carolina, nestled in the mountains of Avery County, near the North Carolina/Tennessee border. Most attendees live in Avery County, North Carolina, or nearby Carter County, Tennessee. Church members include families with small and school aged children, empty nesters, and retirees. We have four vibrant seasons, which allows for many different social and fellowship opportunities as a congregation. This is a full-time paid position based on qualifications and experience. A four-bedroom parsonage within walking distance of the church is available for pastoral use.
