Time allocation: Full time

Term Length: The Leadership Team will evaluate this ministry description after one year of use. (July 2014). Edits will be made at that time by the Leadership Team based on ear-to-the ground feedback and or/official surveys, Spirit's leading and Ministry Leaders input. From that point on, bi-annual reviews will occur during the time of the annual compensation review.

Purpose: The Lead Pastor will serve as the primary leader in the congregation: casting vision, modeling a life of humble obedience to the Lord, preaching and teaching the Word, and providing care for the congregation so that the people are equipped for ministry both within the congregation and in their communities.

Responsible to: Manor district bishop and elder team.

Pastoral Roles/Responsibilities:

Vision/Leadership
Develop and implement vision and goals for the congregation in consultation with the elders and other congregational leaders so that the congregation fulfills her God-given calling.
Mentor, equip, and call new leaders so that the leadership opportunities of the congregation are distributed among a variety of people in the congregation.
Guide and encourage the leaders of the congregation. This includes shared leadership of the Leadership Team and Ministry Leaders' meeting. Provide counsel as needed to Ministry Leaders and meet with staff on a regular basis for support and work accountability.
Listen to the congregation's passion, concerns, and ideas in order to honor the work of the Holy Spirit among God's people.
Point the church toward innovative thinking regarding new expressions of "church" and church planting.

Model Following Christ

Be an example for others of what it means to follow Jesus in our present day culture and encourage congregational members to also be faithful followers of Jesus, personally and communally.
Be present and proactive to have caring and faith-forming conversations with congregants, on Sunday mornings, at congregational activities, in homes, or in other settings.

Pastoral Care

Cultivate a caring congregation that pays attention to each other in the midst of ordinary life, during experiences of joy, and in times of pain and crisis.
Make initial contact with the individuals in need and then discern what continuing care is needed.
Provide care and counsel for members during crisis and in significant life events.
Be available to lead or participate in special worship services such as weddings, funerals, anointings, communion, child dedications, and baptisms.
Promote hospitality and faith formation among congregants and in the neighborhood – looking for and communicating ways the congregation can connect with and care for others.
Seek out those in the congregation with pastoral gifts and develop a team this is recognized and commissioned by the congregation to provide additional pastoral care.

Preaching & Teaching

Oversee the preaching and teaching ministry within the congregation to ensure that sound biblical preaching and teaching is occurring.
Nurture an environment where preaching and teaching gifts are released and developed.
Preach two to three times each month.
Plan and oversee new believers classes.
Be available as needed to teach in the congregation.

Equipping

Follow the biblical mandate to "equip Christ's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (Ephesians 4:11-12).
Create structures that develop, encourage, and equip members to use their spiritual gifts in ministries within and beyond the congregation.
Encourage the congregation, as individuals and as a whole, to discover and live out God-given passion for the world, guided by faith in Jesus.
Encourage and seek opportunities for ministry leaders and the congregation as a whole, to develop, implement, and evaluate goals that reflect God-given passion for the world.
Empower a team of leaders to plan, design, and lead meaningful worship, which invites a deepening relationship with God.
Nurture an environment where congregants are released to join in the places where God is at work locally and in the world.
Ensure structures are in place so that children, youth, and young adults' faith is developed and nurtured.

Pursue personal spiritual formation, seeking guidance and learning opportunities, and making time for prayer, study, and conversations with mature followers of Jesus.
Take care of oneself, with healthy practices of sleep, eating, exercise, rest, companionship, and play.
Invest in marriage and family, prioritizing time and commitment with spouse and children. .
