The First United Methodist Church of Oviedo is a thriving multigenerational church with over 500 in worship attendance on Sunday morning. We are seeking a Youth Pastor to lead a 25-30 student middle and high school youth ministry with excellent growth potential. For application information, please visit http://www.fumco.net/ypsearch or apply direct at https://goo.gl/forms/gAKcgzKRkBzAxZ7h1 PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Senior Pastor (or designee), the Youth Pastor provides leadership and guidance to the youth of the Church (grades 6-12). The Youth Pastor will create a healthy, loving atmosphere aimed at developing youth as whole people. The person who holds this position provides the tools to develop youth spiritually, physically, emotionally, and interpersonally allowing them to fulfill the Great Commandment and Great Commission. This individual aims to develop youth who can fully participate in the life the Church through fellowship, learning, outreach, and worship. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Christian character: a life that reflects that of Jesus Spiritual gifts such as servanthood, teaching, exhortation (encouragement), leadership, administration, helping, and shepherding Agreement with the United Methodist Articles of Religion and Theological Task as outlined in the Book of Discipline Bachelor's Degree in a related field Education and/or experience in individual and group pastoral care Excellent verbal and written communication, conflict management skills, and computer proficiency (including social media). Previous Christian education, training and experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced Degree (e.g. MDiv, MRE, MA in a related field) A CDL Class C Florida Driver's License - to be obtained within 180 days of employment. Professional certification in Youth Ministry The Youth Pastor has the primary responsibility of leading in the following four ministry areas: FELLOWSHIP Develops youth fellowship groups. Develops opportunities for relationship-building between youth, parents, and larger church community LEARNING Develops programming for discipleship and spiritual formation such as small groups, retreats, service learning projects, and special seminars/programs and encourages attendance at youth camps. Develop and implements weekly program activities and weekly Bible studies for youth spiritual formation (Wednesday and Sunday evenings). Prepare and coordinate confirmation class annually Supervises the Youth Sunday School program. Recruits and trains adult volunteers for all programming efforts and promotes excellence among volunteers Connects youth with adult mentors throughout the congregation OUTREACH Works directly with Mission Engagement Director Fully active and engaged in missions of the church and broader Oviedo community Engage youth in their daily lives (e.g. football games, concerts, school activities, etc.) WORSHIP Lead and/or facilitate Youth worship services Attend worship services at First United Methodist Church In addition to the four ministry areas listed above, the Youth Pastor holds the following ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: Establishes goals and objectives for youth programs that are consistent with the mission of the First United Methodist Church of Oviedo and the Florida Conference in collaboration and coordination with the Youth Council. Conducts Youth Protection Training and becomes conversant in this policy. Advocates for youth and their families within the Church and in the community Promotes and understanding of Christian vocation in daily life and builds and understanding of God's call for all Christians Supervises the youth at programs, meetings and Bible studies. Develops an organized method for active recruiting and training of adult leaders within a supportive structure. Prepares an annual budget for youth programs and is accountable for program expenses. Follows established financial and office procedures of the Church (i.e., vouchers, deposits, invoices, etc.). Prepares ongoing communications regarding youth ministries activities and schedules. Ensures that the areas and facilities used by the youth are clean and attractive. Maintains up-to-date attendance records. Keeps all student accounts up to date, accurate and reconciled to church accounts. Ensures that all programs follow Church policies and directives. Provides pastoral care to youth and/or families. When necessary, refers counseling to one of the Pastors or to appropriate community resources. Obtains release statements and provides a list of contact numbers to the Church for those going on overnight trips and all-day programs.
