Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, LCMC Job Description Position Title: Youth and Family Pastor Overview: The Youth and Family Pastor will provide pastoral assistance and shared duties with the Senior Pastor with a primary focus on children's, youth, young adult and family ministry. Organizational Relationship: The Youth and Family Pastor will report to the Senior Pastor and will be solely responsible for providing leadership, recruitment and training of volunteers for children, youth and family activities. He or she will work with action team leaders, staff and volunteers to accomplish the mission of the respective teams. Executive council will meet with the Youth and Family pastor on a quarterly basis to discuss performance. Goal Grow numerically and spiritually the youth and family ministry of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Position responsibilities and duties: Primary -Sole duties and responsibilities Provide leadership for youth and family ministry Make and maintain connections with younger families Equip parents/families to teach and model the Christian faith with their children Develop programs that incorporate the youth of our church, youth in community and their families Develop and implement strategies to introduce and invite non-member families to attend Shepherd of the Hills worship services Recruit and train volunteer support staff for all youth programs and hold regular feedback meetings Oversee and coordinate the following programs: Sunday School Education - (Grades pre k through 8th) will utilize his/her skills to train staff, i.e., Sunday school teachers and youth ministry helpers Vacation Bible School VBS - Spring and Fall. These are one week all day activities Word on Wednesday night (WOW) - (3 years through 5th grade) Junior High Youth meets weekly in evening Senior High Youth meets weekly in evening Special events- such as Bible camps, Easter egg hunt, Christmas programs Be available at all outreach activities such as WOW and VBS to meet, greet and develop relationships with the parents of the children attending these programs Outreach to youth in community through school activities, etc. Inspire and motivate our youth to learn about God and live their lives for Jesus Christ Communicate on a regular basis all youth and family activities to our congregation and our community Secondary -Shared duties and responsibilities Preaching at least once per month at all services Administering sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion Teaching Adult Education Counseling Phoning and writing notes to perspective members Supporting congregation in evangelism/outreach efforts to community Teaching Confirmation classes Officiating at Funerals and weddings as requested Assisting Senior Pastor in crisis situations Required Qualifications High regard for the authority of God's word Passion for evangelism/outreach to youth and young families Demonstrate and model excellent communication skills (written, oral and visual). Ability to convey to others the joy of being a Christian in daily life Four Year college degree Master of Divinity from a recognized seminary Practice the habits of personal spiritual renewal Self-starter, team developer and a team player that will continually develop, implement, lead and improve our children, youth and family programs Willing to work in a variety of settings including office hours at church, schools (if permitted), non-church organizations, family homes and a variety of times which includes nights and weekends Willing to attend staff meetings, provide regular communication to church council and congregation and attend various council and ministry meetings as required.
