Capabilities and Characteristics:
Deep devotion to God and love for His Word
A relational connection with teens and a passion to help them grow in Christ
A deep desire to see many students come to faith in Jesus
Sees the local church as an important pathway to spiritual development
Loves shepherding students, but not manipulating them
Gifted leadership and communication skills (on and off the platform)
Articulate (able to communicate well on the platform and through media)
Disciplined, innovative and creative
A learner (someone who seeks constant improvement and is open to new strategies/ideas)
Able to develop a team-oriented culture through training, mentoring and teaching volunteers
Experienced in leading ministries that reach 100 to 500+ middle and high school students
Committed to and doctrinally aligned with the Vision, Mission and Values of VCF

Reports To / Relates Closely With:
Senior Pastor
Executive Pastor

Provides Oversight To:
Middle School & High School Groups
Existing and future teens and their families
Volunteer Staff (including their recruitment and training)
Ministry intern(s)

Primary Responsibilities:
Live a healthy balanced lifestyle that honors God, family, and others
Pastoral care and training of parents and students
Teaching relevant messages with biblically sound doctrine
Curriculum oversight and development
Lead the structure and design of weekend youth services in a team environment
Work to develop an overall belief of intergenerational worship (adults and teens together)
Facilitate creative student and family events (camps, outings, outreach)
Function as an operator and figurehead of the ministry to parents and school administrators.
Oversight of all weekly small groups and their leaders
Build and maintain a healthy, effective volunteer team of adults, parents, and young adults
Communicate with and equip parents to be involved in the spiritual formation of their teenagers
Work with the Executive Pastor and the Children's Ministry Director for curriculum sequence
Build a culture that is continually attracting new teens and their families
Visit school campuses & support Fellowship of Christian Athletes club on high school campus
Oversee load-in and load-out of weekly youth room gatherings
Inspire and engage the student leadership volunteers

Other Responsibilities:
Produce outreach-oriented events that are strategic to the overall mission of the church
Evaluate current strategic plan and structure in alignment with the overall church mission, vision, values and strategies and adjust accordingly
Oversee adjustment and implementation of an effective, long-term budget
Teaching for Sunday morning services when applicable

Education/Experience:
Bachelors and/or master's degree preferable or equivalent experience.
Some formal in-depth bible training
3+ years full-time youth ministry experience required

Compensation:
Compensation is highly competitive, given cost of living on the central coast. Commensurate with education and experience.

Hours:
50+ Weekly; including administrative work, relational ministry, staff meeting, planning, programs, reading, biblical study, and church attendance.
