Youth Director Job Description

Position Description
The High Sierra Fellowship (HSF) Youth Director proactively manages the youth (pre-18) ministry with
emphasis on developing and overseeing the Middle School and High School students. The HSF Youth
Director also works closely with parents, adult leaders/staff, volunteers, HSF boards(s), and student
leaders to fulfill aspects of this task. This includes developing and incorporating youth worship in
preparation for students future walk with Christ. The HSF Youth Director reports to the Senior Pastor
and HSF Overseer Board (OB).
Duties and Responsibilities
Strive in word and deed to be a worthy example of biblical Christian living and avoid conduct
which might endanger the faith of others
Collaboratively minister with staff, church body, board(s), and parents in accomplishing God's
work; includes engaging parents in proactively explaining spiritual goals for youth
Responsible for evangelism, fellowship, worship, and leadership development of students in the
Youth Group (Middle School/High School)
Responsible for developing a student discipleship program wherein more mature students are
engaged in discipling the younger/less mature
Plan and lead weekly Youth Group meetings
o Gospel oriented to reach lost students
o In-depth and systematic bible teaching to maximize students walk with Christ
o Thorough biblically referenced relevant topic teaching (e.g. creation/evolution,
apologetics, peer pressure, sexuality, self image)
o Incorporate worship that is honest, biblically accurate, and God-honoring
o Provide time for safe, creative, Christ-centered entertainment
Plan and provide leadership for weekly Youth Group (Middle School/High School) Sunday School
classes
Ensure a safe and responsibly nurturing environment for all students
Provide counseling for students and parents as needed and per HSF guidelines
Organize and lead an annual mission trip for students and chaperones
Organize and lead two local community service projects per year
Organize and lead at least one student-based fund raising event per year
Organize and lead one summer camp and one winter camp per year
Attend weekly staff meetings
Report at monthly board meetings when requested
Be prepared to teach and preach the Word of God in various services when called upon in
alignment with the HSF Statement of Faith


Qualifications / Required Skills and Abilities
Must demonstrate a born again, active and real Christian walk, meeting the requirements of
scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-13 / Titus 1:5-9) and a call to Youth Ministry
Demonstrates interpersonal and relational leadership skills with youth, parents, and staff
Displays strong verbal and written communication skills including social media proficiency and
church meeting software
Has competent computer skills including MS Office PowerPoint for teaching and presentations
Pays close attention to detail and can function in an organized manner with minimal supervision
Ability to coordinate the work of a large group of volunteers for regular events
Has knowledge of and supports the church's statement of faith, mission and vision
Ability to counsel, handle stress and problem solve a wide variety of student issues
Ability to keep confidences with sensitive student, parent, and staff information
Must pass criminal background check and have an upstanding credit history
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a ministry related field or six years experience in youth related ministry
Experience working in a church office environment, weekly gatherings and youth camps
Work Hours / Salary
This position is Full Time, including in-office and on-call/after hours duties
Salary range: $43,500 to $62,800 depending on education and experience

High Sierra Fellowship (HSF) is a non-denominational church that believes God's word is inerrant in the original manuscripts of the Scriptural Canon of the Old and New Testaments. HSF's pastors teach the bible book-by-book and chapter-by-chapter through Sunday morning and Wednesday evening worship services. HSF is a 600 member congregation located in Gardnerville, NV, in the Carson Valley which is approximately 45 minutes from Lake Tahoe and one hour from Reno, NV. HSF is growing, as is its youth programs, along with the community. HSF's youth program currently averages between 20-30 youth with much potential for growth by drawing from the surrounding community.
