Position Purpose:
The goal of this position is the leadership of a vital ministry of congregational worship music that:
-- engages the congregation in a worship experience where they are invited to personally connect with God (in contrast to worship where the congregation attends as an observer and audience member)
--is participatory, valuing the gifts of the entire congregation.
--is inspiring, energetic and joyous but also expressive of other religious emotion as the occasion invites.
--gently pushes the congregation by inviting more experimentation, trying new approaches to music and allowing the congregation to even learn from "failures".
-- expose the congregation to an eclectic range of music, considering the worship needs of multiple generations in the same worship service (Eclectic music would include but not be limited to: classic sacred music, contemporary Christian music, Christian folk and blue grass, praise music, Gospel, spirituals, Taize, world music, etc.)
Duties:
--coordinate music program of the church (one Chancel Choir/children's choirs, hand bell choir, special music, and summer music)
--rehearse, direct,_noemailmunicate with and recruit members for the adult Chancel Choir
--lead congregational hymn singing, as appropriate
--expand the styles of music used in congregational life and lead the congregation in its ability to sing new music.
--in dialogue with the pastoral staff, help the congregation to discover its musical voice and style (the two or three genres of music which effectively express this congregation's spirit of worship)
--incorporate the various musical abilities (instrumental, vocal, dance) of the congregation (youth, young adults and adults) in the worship of God.
--participate in planning worship music with the pastoral staff, music staff and others as appropriate.
--provide team leadership, scheduling and direction for other music staff _noemailanist/pianist, bell choir director, and children's music director)
--help develop and monitor music budget
--be responsible for music equipment needs, ordering new music as needed.
--See to proper maintenance of music files
Qualifications:
--Christian faith
--music degree and/or choral conducting proficiency
--active knowledge of, experience with/or willingness to learn a broad range of all kinds of Christian music (choral and congregational—classic, contemporary and world music)

--previous experience in church music strongly preferred
Time Commitment
--approximately 10hours per week (September -May); 3 hours per week (June-August).
--Two Sundays off with pay during September-May (excluding Sundays of Advent, Christmas, Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter) and two Sundays of during June-August.
