Galloway is seeking an outgoing, dynamic individual with a passion for cultivating and building formative, nurturing relationships with youth. Our historic downtown church provides abundant opportunities and resources for youth ministry based on the Wesleyan theology of love, acceptance, and the extension of God's grace to all.
Expectations

*Formal theological training preferred
*Supervised primarily by Principal Associate/Minister to Families, answerable also to Senior Pastor and ultimately to SPRC
*Participates as part of Family Ministry Formation Team and Worship Planning Team for GUMC

Description
The Minister to Students is a vitally important part of the Family Ministry Spiritual Formation Ministry Team. Our Family Ministry is committed to this congregational ethos through our Core Values: Loved and Accepting, Confident and Questioning, Compassionate and Engaged.
We seek a Minister to Students for youth in grades 6-12, as well as students in college or graduate/professional school and their families. The ideal candidate would demonstrate a contagious enthusiasm for Christ and youth with proven gifts of administration, communication (oral and written), leadership, and a deep grounding in United Methodist theology.
The Minister to Students will organize and implement ministry to, with and alongside students and volunteers to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. An effective minister would help create and implement a strategic plan to equip and empower youth and adult leaders to companion and form students to live in community with mission as a way of life.
Responsibilities
*Establish a workable, regular system of communication with youth, parents, and volunteers.
*Recruit adult volunteers of all ages to assist in youth ministry.
*Lead and recruit volunteer leaders for youth and college activities including Sunday school and mid-week Bible studies for Jr. High and Sr. High (age-appropriate for each).
*Frequently and regularly engage students in venues outside the church.
*Work with the Minister to Families and the Family Ministry Spiritual Formation Team to cast and implement the ongoing strategic plan for Galloway's Family Ministry that implements the four Core Values of Galloway's Family Ministry.
*Cultivate/teach students various age-appropriate ways of personal Bible-reading and spiritual formation, continually demonstrating the importance and relevance of prayer and the Scriptures.
*Provide students and parents with a variety of guides, aids, and devotionals to help individuals find their own authentic ways of faith formation and discipleship.
*Lead students in ways that foster mutual support and the gift of community in Christ.
*In collaboration with other GUMC staff, seek to develop opportunities for youth involvement within Galloway such as drama, missions and outreach, church camps, worship, etc.
*Equip students to engage in relational faith-sharing that is authentic to their own respective individual personalities.
*Oversee and guide the Youth Spiritual Formation Team of volunteers.
*Under the direction of the Family Minister pastor, collaborate with the Children's Director to plan and implement Confirmation.
*Provide pastoral care for students.
*Actively recruit unchurched youth while maintaining a proportional emphasis on discipleship & nurture.
*Engage in intentional relationships with college students in the Jackson Metro area as well as remaining in relationships with Galloway Collegians in other geographic areas.
*Lead regularly in worship and participate in weekly worship planning meetings.
