Background
The United Protestant Church of Grayslake, membership approximately 300, is a conservative federated church having affiliation with both the UCC and the UMC. We are seeking a UCC, UMC or non-denominational pastor to help our congregation transition to our next chapter and provide leadership in engaging and revitalizing our members. We are located in Grayslake, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago approximately 13 miles south of the Wisconsin border.
Title: Pastor
Status: Full Time Salaried Exempt
Position Summary: Reporting to the Administrative Council and under the direction of the Staff Parish Committee the Pastor is entrusted with the overall spiritual direction of the church and is charged with helping the congregation find spiritual direction in their personal lives. Responsibilities also include coordinating the overall administration of the church and developing and implementing of the mission and vision of the church.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Biblically-based sermons that use personalized stories that relate to our lives and provide a call to action for congregation
Prepare and lead Sunday worship including scripture study, crafting of liturgy and bulletin, sermon preparation, guiding and sometimes finding lay liturgists, planning music in coordination with musical staff or volunteers, preaching, offering of prayers, etc.
Faith formation and vitality through prayer, Bible study, service, identifying helpful resources and opportunities and helping lay persons take advantage of them.
Leadership development by working with people in the church to create ministry and programs.
Ensure that church members receive appropriate pastoral care and spiritual guidance in times of need.
Provide leadership and direction in working with the leadership of the church to help grow the church
Provide administrative oversight for the daily affairs of the church, including being head of staff' under the direction of the Staff Parish Committee.
Conduct weddings and funerals for participants in the worshipping community.
Strategic planning for current and new directions in ministry.
Recognize areas for improvement in the church and take necessary steps to implement.
Provide leadership and act as a resource for commission and committee meetings.
Participate in wider church activities such as conference and association meetings.
Faithful financial development and stewardship.
Responsibility for supervision of staff.
Counseling of church members.
Attends, or acts as a resource for, commission and committee meetings.
Act as the church representative at local meeting and functions.
Lead by example.

Experience:
5-10 direct years of direct experience as head pastor of church with a membership in between 200 and 300.
Hours of work –
Typically, 40 – 50 hours per week.
Qualifications:
A legally licensed and/or ordained minister.
Education:
College degree preferred or equivalent experience.
