Pastor Job Description
To honor God by making and growing fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. (2Timothy 4:5)
Required: B.A .from a Christian college or university, or M.Div.
He shall agree with the doctrinal statement, church covenant and constitution of the West Oneonta Baptist Church
The Pastor at WOBC is to drive vision and offer leadership to the staff and to the church body that aligns with the church's mission. He will work to equip disciples of Jesus to impact our community and world. As a servant-leader he will embody and champion WOBC's vision and philosophy of ministry to include a life of personal discipleship and devotion to Jesus Christ.
1. Preacher / teacher Passion for God, the gospel, and his word
a. He will preach the word of God, the whole counsel of God, at worship services.
b. He will regularly teach subjects where pastoral perspective and biblical depth are needed.
c. He will, along with the elders, protect the church from error and false teaching.
d. He will, with the elders, officiate and oversee the ordinances: baptism and the Lord's Supper.
e. He will officiate at church weddings and funerals.
2. Pastoral care Compassion for God's people
a. He will team with the elders and deacons in caring for God's people.
b. He will be available to offer biblical counseling(recognizing he need not be a counseling specialist and that some counselees will require referral to others).
c. He will offer pre-marital counseling for couples he marries.
d. Along with the elders, he will correct believers who fall into sin (Gal 6:1-2).
e. Along with the elders, he will pray for the congregation and the ministry (Eph 6:18).
3. Leadership / administration Commitment for accomplishing the church's mission.
a. He will work with the elders in casting vision for the ministry of WOBC.
b. He will lead in executing elder-endorsed initiatives that advance the church's mission and vision.
c. He will oversee worship services, offering guidance to the praise team.
d. He will work with the elders to develop plans to cultivate elders and other ministry leaders.
e. Along with the elders, he will develop and oversee a cradle-to-grave discipleship strategy.
f. He will oversee the launch and growth of youth ministries, as needed.
g. He will oversee the health and fidelity of all other ministries including small groups.
h. He shall himself be an active witness to the lost (an evangelistic lifestyle)and help train people to witness effectively.

Accountable to: The Elder Team, which shall conduct an annual review of his work and the ministry. In this way, the Pastor will have feedback and evaluation from the elders and from the congregation on the progress of the ministry.
