WHO WE ARE
Our church was planted before our town existed as six pioneers chartered a new church while gathering to worship in a central Nebraskan sod house. Today, First Baptist Church of Cairo, Nebraska, has grown into a multi-generational congregation of 125 people comprising more than 10% of our community. Besides weekly worship services and small group gatherings, our church family is actively involved in community outreach, mid-week children's programming, regional disaster relief, and global missions. As an active participant in the Converge Heartland District, we strive to be a gospel-centered church that ministers and models Christ's transforming power within and to our community. Though we have experienced much throughout our 140-year history, our enduring vision remains to connect the unconnected to Christ and together grow in full devotion to him.
WHERE WE ARE
The town of Cairo is located in central Nebraska, just 15 minutes from Grand Island, 30 minutes from Hastings, and 30 minutes from Kearney. Though Cairo's population is just over 1,100, our Tri-City Micropolitan area population is 160,000. We enjoy small-town living with the conveniences that larger cities offer within a short drive. Cairo thrives on community involvement, with a volunteer Fire Department and EMTs. Our Senior Center provides daily meals during the weekdays for the elderly. Our quaint coffee shop, The Medina Street Vault, offers delicious coffee, breakfast, and lunch and is an excellent place for friends to gather and chat. We have a gym, swimming pool, basketball, tennis, pickleball courts, baseball fields, and two city parks. We are a short drive to several small lakes and state recreational parks, including Sherman, Davis Creek, Mormon Island, and several others. Cairo is an exceptionally desirable community to call home.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are praying for God to provide our next pastor. This man will model a strong walk with Christ, a clear calling to pastoral ministry, and be an experienced ministry generalist who understands small-town and bedroom community church ministry. We desire him to bring strengths in expository preaching, worship service planning, and pastoral care. Though this position requires a self-starter with a strong work ethic, we desire our pastor to maintain a healthy balance of ministry and family life. Furthermore, our next pastor will need administrative capacities that develop the church's current and future staff, volunteers, and ministry systems. He will need to work well with the elders and other church leaders to effectively provide spiritual care and guidance to our multi-generational congregation. We are a Great Commission-oriented church, so it is essential that our pastor leads us with an outreach orientation while being personally connected with our community, mission efforts, and broader denominational district.
