Job Description:
Education
Bachelor's degree and advanced seminary education preferred.
Experience
Experience in leading in a medium-to-large church environment.
Experience preaching and teaching to medium-to-large church congregations or ministries.
Ordained or willing to seek ordination.
Abilities
Ability to rightly handle the Word of God and to make practical applications for those at all different points of their spiritual journey.
Ability to_noemailmunicate with excellence both in written and verbal form.
Ability to lead and inspire teams of all sizes. Leading the staff in vision and direction, and regularly pushing the congregation forward in the mission.
Ability to offer pastoral care, support, and counseling as necessary for those facing pain and loss.
Ability to lead in a humble fashion with a strong ability to train, empower, and entrust other leaders to achieve the mission of the church.
Spiritual Maturity
A robust personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is visible and tangible to all of those you interact with.

Character
Must clearly fill the qualifications for an overseer listed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
Capacity to lead, with a clear track record of strong character, and a humble heart.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish and define the direction and vision for the church and lead the Executive Team and staff to set goals and staff values to a_noemailplish that vision.
Act as the primary_noemailmunicator for the church in weekend services and be responsible for the content, quality, and preaching calendar.
Lead and establish a teaching team of other capable_noemailmunicators.
Foster the establishment and propagation of church_noemailmunity.
Shepherd and love the congregation by facilitating funerals, hospital visits, weddings, baptisms, and other pastoral care responsibilities.
Meet with and maintain mutually supportive relationships with other staff and the church board.
Uphold the Bethany Church Constitution.
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Church Board and is a member of the Church Board.
Leads the Executive Team and assists in their oversight of the staff.
About Bethany Baptist Church:
Bethany is a church with a storied history within the Puyallup area. The church was started in 1920 by a group of Swedish Baptists who soon realized they needed to add some English-speaking ministry to impact their community. Since then, the church has never slowed down with its relational ministry approach and a commitment to evangelism and discipleship.
Bethany is a member of the Converge network of churches which does not operate like a typical denomination. Bethany chooses to partner with Converge but is not under the authority of any denomination. The congregation and the board are the sources of the church's accountability and oversight.
The current Sr. Pastor, Pastor George Bedlion Jr. has been at Bethany since 2004. He and his wife Elaine have served faithfully and helped the church grow significantly in attendance and its community impact over the last 20 years. Pastor George has begun the process of succession and his eventual retirement
