JOB DESCRIPTION - Youth Minister
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION
The Woodland Methodist Youth Minister is responsible for all youth ministry programs at Woodland. The purpose of this position is to minister to students from grades 7-12 by evangelizing them, equipping them to become faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, and nurturing them in their faith.
REPORTS TO – the Senior Pastor.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to)
Be familiar with The Transitional Book of Doctrines and Discipline for the Global Methodist Church
Devote no less than 40 hours of work per week to their ministry
Coordinate office hours with the Pastor
Promote the unity, direction and vision of Woodland by participating in staff and leadership meetings.
Participate in Sunday worship services, including Sunday School classes or worship services.
Oversee and develop youth Sunday School classes by recruiting and enlisting teachers and gathering/ordering curriculum.
Lead and teach Sunday and Wednesday night youth programming
Recruit youth from Woodland and the community to participate in youth ministry
Enlist and orient children from the confirmation into the youth ministry.
Develop and implement retreats, mission experiences, activities and other events to help youth
grown in their relationship with Christ, sense of servanthood, discipleship and mission.
Oversee the youth budget
Develop youth leaders to minister to other youth
Recruit, train, direct and provide structure and support for volunteer youth mentors.
Set the calendar for youth activities and events.
Know the church's Safe Sanctuaries policies and procedures and enforce them.
Provide clear weekly communications to youth and parents of events and activities ("Group Me" /
Facebook, church news blasts, etc)
Work to integrate youth into the life of the church by participating in projects, missions and events
Be available to minister to youth and their parents as needed
Grow personal relationships and make weekly contact to all youth with phone calls, texts, snaps and
visits to their school and/or sporting events / extra- curricular events.
Develop and encourage ties between youth of Woodland and other church youth groups.
Stay current with youth ministry practices by reading, researching &
attending youth leadership conferences. Attend continuing education conferences, classes every
year with a minimum of two CE programs annually at the direction of the senior pastor.
Collaborate with senior pastor to set goals each September to coordinate with budget for each
upcoming year.
Perform other duties as assigned.
