As the Lead Pastor of the Traverse City Campus at Kensington, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and guiding the Traverse City campus, serving as the designated leader and teacher. Your primary responsibilities include teaching and preaching, vision casting for the campus, developing and empowering volunteer leadership teams, providing pastoral care to the congregation, and building continued ministry momentum that contributes to growth and maturity in Jesus.

CHARACTER:

Show a strong commitment to living out Kensington's values of In Christ, Under Scripture, As a Family, For the One, From Brokenness, With Openhandedness, and Through Others.

This called point leader will have:
• An ability to deeply connect with others
• A hunger to see the church multiply in the region
• A gift of preaching and teaching with power, clarity and spiritual authority

• A high level of emotional intelligence
• A desire for teamwork and goodwill
• A propensity towards fun and joy
• A burn to cast vision
• A background in large church contexts, preferably multi-site movements
• A history serving in a teaching team model
• A drive to create and sustain momentum and campus health
• An overwhelming desire to see people connected in community
• An ease and confidence in building bridges between generations

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Vision Casting: As the point-leader at your campus, you will be responsible for casting a compelling vision that aligns with the overall mission of Kensington. Your role involves translating this vision into dynamic and inspiring teachings during weekend and midweek services.
2. Leadership: Lead the campus leadership team collaboratively, contributing to the preservation of the core values and ethos of Kensington. Your leadership will be instrumental in ensuring that the heart of Kensington remains intact at the specific location you oversee.
3. Message Series and Titles: Actively participate in the process of determining message series and titles for services. Collaborate with the broader team to create content that resonates with the congregation and addresses relevant spiritual needs.
4. Training and Development: Champion the value of inspired teaching by training and developing others who possess the spiritual gift of teaching. Facilitate a culture of continuous improvement and growth within the teaching team at your campus.
5. Momentum Building: Generate and maintain momentum at your campus, fostering an environment that encourages spiritual growth, community engagement, and active participation among the congregation.
6. Big "L" Leadership: Be the prominent leader (big "L") for your campus, serving as a role model and source of inspiration for both the leadership team and the wider community. Exhibit strong leadership qualities that align with Kensington's mission and values.

About Kensington Church:

In 1990, when Kensington first opened its doors – actually the doors of a rented school cafeteria – we had no idea what to expect. But when 463 people showed up, we knew God was at work and we were ready to join Him! In the early days, people met all over Oakland County in homes, coffee shops, warehouses and office buildings. Today, our six locations in Michigan gather together thousands at weekend services, and our desire to make the love of Jesus known has inspired us to meet needs and build relationships with our neighbors here in our own cities and those halfway around the world.

For over three decades, we have witnessed lives being transformed by Jesus. Kensington Church is a community of imperfect people, passionately pursuing God, authentic community, and the [one] who is forgotten, alone, hungry, and rejected. With God as our infinite source, we are ready to pour out our time, resources, and lives on behalf of others.

Kensington Traverse City:
This local church campus has unlimited potential in Northern Michigan and beyond. It’s part of a dynamic high-impact, multi-site movement headquartered 230 miles south in a suburb outside of Detroit. The church was formerly called Bay Pointe Community Church and was adopted by Kensington in 2016. Kensington was established in 1991 and has six locations with a total average attendance/stream of 10,000 people and 160 staff. The Traverse City campus currently averages attendance/stream of 500 people.

Region:
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, tucked away in the northwest corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, won the title of "Good Morning America's" Most Beautiful Place in America.
The area affords tremendous recreational opportunities while being a place that attracts young people as well as seasoned adults in their retirement years.

Job Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education: The ideal candidate will have a degree from a theologically aligned university, and a proven track record of growing a church or campus
2. Experience: Proven experience in leadership and teaching. Demonstrated ability to cast vision and communicate effectively through teaching and preaching. Strong organizational and team leadership skills. Commitment to preserving the core values and mission of Kensington. Passion for training and developing others in the spiritual gift of teaching.
