Minister of Music (salaried part-time) Job Description
A. PRINCIPLE PURPOSE
o The Minister of Music is responsible for developing and promoting a comprehensive music ministry within Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
B. QUALIFICATIONS
o The Minister of Music will be a Christian
o Will have definite call to the ministry
o Will hold to Scriptures as being divinely inspired and without error
o Doctrinal position will be consistent with the statement of faith set forth in The Baptist Faith and Message
o Will have knowledge and understanding of church music
o Will be properly trained for the position through formal education and/or practical experience
o Must be willing to submit to a thorough background check
C. RESPONSIBILITIES
o Be responsible for leading, teaching, and building the choir
o Lead congregational singing unless delegated to another person
o Plan and coordinate the music ministry. Consult with other staff, program leaders and external resources concerning the best methods for meeting such needs
o Along with the Senior Pastor direct the planning, coordination, operation and evaluation of each worship service
o Lead and coordinate the choir, soloists, musical specials, or guests, instrumental groups and other matters as considered appropriate
o Work closely with the Media Team regarding all audio and visual needs
o Oversee the planning and direction of annual Christmas and Easter presentations and other special worship service events planned by the Senior Pastor
o Plan, coordinate, conduct and evaluate special events (e.g., concerts, retreats, banquets, fellowship events.)
o Lead in the recruitment, training, and allocations of human resources for an efficient music ministry within the church and community
o Conduct special training events for volunteers involved with the music ministry of the church as needed
o Advise in the use of program materials, equipment, supplies and space by music groups
o Keep informed of new trends in the music ministry and seek to enrich all facets of the music ministry
o Oversee expenditure of monies in the annual church budget designated for the music ministry. Work with the Finance Committee in preparing the annual budget for the music ministry
o Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
D. HOURS AND COMPENSATION
o Minister of Music is a part time position and will be expected to work an average of 20 hours per week
o This time will consist of responsibilities on Sunday morning, Wednesday evening and special services, as well as preparation time for participation in the music ministry. When necessary, the Minister of Music will be expected to invest additional time beyond 20 hours per week into his duties (e.g., timely staff meeting attendance, office hours, time spent ministering to those participating in the music ministry.)
o Compensation is commensurate with education/training experience and will be paid in the form of weekly salary.
o A personal reimbursement account will be provided to cover mileage and other out-of-pocket expenses incurred by the employee
