Skills
With the Music Director, possess skills in selecting and performing a variety of styles of music appropriate to the needs and requests of the church community. The worship music includes a wide range of styles, classical to gospel to contemporary. Possesses skills in organization and use of resources. Is able to work in a team setting with other staff members and lay volunteers.
Major Responsibilities
Teamwork and Communication
To work collaboratively and communicate frequently with the Music Director and Pastor. To coordinate music with the Scriptural and Liturgical themes for each week's worship with the Music Director. To keep lines of communication open and bring concerns directly to the Music Director and Pastor. To promote the spiritual life of OLOS through the music ministry. To attend staff meetings as available.
Music Selection and Performance
Under the supervision of the Music Director, provide organ/piano accompaniment for OLOS and choir. Musical offerings on Saturday and Sunday may include hymns, anthems, special music, prelude, offertory, postlude, recessional, response, communion and prayer time music. Accompanies weekly choir practices.
Additional Responsibilities May Include
May provide organ/piano accompaniment for OLOS and possibly choir for special services as discussed with Pastor and Music Director. May provide music for weddings and funerals which will be compensated by the respective family. If the family wishes to have a guest pianist/organist, this will be coordinated with the Music Director and attending Pastor.
Supervision The Pastor and the Music Director are the direct supervisors of the organist/pianist.
Evaluation
In the first year of employment, the Pastor and Music Director, will conduct a 3-month review. After the first year, an annual review of the employee will be held to evaluate performance.
Compensation
Compensation is paid by-weekly and is based upon experience, education and successfully passing all background checks and clearances (including criminal and child abuse history). Compensation to be negotiated and discussed during the interview process. This is a part-time salaried position with an average of 5 hours per week.
