PASTOR OF WORSHIP & MUSIC – JOB DESCRIPTION
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To serve as the primary overseer of worship and music, in coordination with the pastoral team, to provide an avenue for all believers to worship and praise our Lord Jesus Christ, and to provide pastoral care to those serving in this ministry.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
⦁ Guided by the Senior Pastor's church-wide vision, develop the mission for the Worship Ministry, which includes the planning, coordination, operation, and evaluation of a comprehensive program
⦁ Oversee the direction and spiritual quality of the Worship Ministry through guidance, example, prayer, creativity, and God given talents
⦁ Develop a comprehensive music ministry of all ages
⦁ Establish expectations (spiritual and performance-based) to ensure that the Worship Ministry is an instrument of the Holy Spirit and that a standard of quality is maintained
⦁ Lead the Creative Planning Team in planning and evaluating the worship services of the church
⦁ Develop a strong worship team to include a worship band, vocal team, choir, and support personnel (such as Sound team, Video Team, Drama Team, etc.)
Administration
⦁ Plan, conduct and evaluate traditional and contemporary services in cooperation with the Senior Pastor (ability to lead services with a musical instrument).
⦁ Lead the adult choir ministry including recruiting, conducting, rehearsing, and the selection of music
⦁ Oversee vocal, instrumental, and drama groups, and children/youth choirs
⦁ Directly oversee all components of the worship service including sound technicians, sound equipment, instruments, platform furnishings, etc. (personnel training, equipment maintenance)
⦁ Work with the Worship Table Leader in determining Worship Ministry Goals, organization, leadership, finances, and administrative processes
⦁ Recruit and train volunteer leaders for responsible positions within the Music Ministry
⦁ Oversee the enlistment of special guest artists in cooperation with the Senior Pastor
⦁ Select or approve all music for all church services held in the church
⦁ Provide oversight of the church music library, music purchases, and subscriptions
⦁ Contact external speakers when needed
⦁ Plan major seasonal and outreach musicals/dramas at least two times per year
⦁ Assure church Musical Instruments and Audio/Video equipment are kept in good working order
⦁ Manage digital support for services and meetings (sermon podcasts, service slides, and announcement loop)
Ministry
⦁ Provide pastoral support to the congregation at large, and especially to anyone involved with the Worship Ministry
⦁ Assist Pastors with contacting guests and making hospital visits as needed
⦁ Serve in other ministry areas as needed or as directed by the Senior Pastor
Communication
⦁ Work with the Worship Table to provide input to the Stewardship Committee for worship and music related annual budget needs
EXPECTATIONS
⦁ Semi-annual review with Senior Pastor
⦁ Annual review with Personnel Committee
⦁ Continuing Education, Conferences
⦁ To be a pastor first, then musician
This position reports directly to: The Senior Pastor
This position works closely with: The Ministerial Staff and the Worship Table
This position is responsible for and oversees: Contracted Organist, "First Impression" ministries including ushers, greeters, and parking
